Police: 7 arrested in shooting of Louisiana deputy

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a Louisiana police officer on Thursday, a state police official said Friday.

Five of the people arrested are in jail and two others remain hospitalized and are being treated for gunshot wounds, Louisiana State Police spokesperson Melissa Matey said.

The seven are charged in connection with the shooting of Deputy Michael Scott Boyington, the first of four deputies shot in related incidents on Thursday.

Boyington was shot and wounded in a parking lot at a steel plant in LaPlace, about 25 miles west of New Orleans, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said Thursday.

The related incident happened when deputies went to a nearby trailer park to investigate the first shooting and were ambushed by a man armed with what Tregre described as an assault rifle, he said. Two deputies were killed and one was wounded in that confrontation.

Tregre identified the dead as Deputies Brandon Nielsen, 34, and Jeremy Triche, 28. Nielsen was married with five children and Triche had a wife and a 2-year-old son, Tregre told reporters Thursday.

Good they have been apprehended. Hope they get the maximum under law.
Such blatant acts always encourage others with the same mind set and access to weapons.

Since there are no names nor pictures of the suspects we can only assume that they were all black. Just more racial bias from CNN. And they wonder why their ratings are in the tank. When will they learn?

Just another isolated incident ! When will the U.S. ban assault weapons and strongly regulate all guns? There are about 10 times more people killed in the U.S. with guns every year than 911. We are living in the 21st century not the 18 th century ! These weapons were created for war , NOT for the average person or idiot on the street.

To those who think everyone should carry a gun so that they can stop the crazy people from shooting up innocent people, these were armed cops and they didn't stand a chance, obviously. So your theory of everyone arming themselves so stuff like the Aurora theater shooting doesn't happen is a pile of crap.

How about cracking down on illegal guns, 99% of all crimes in the US that use a gun as part of that crime are illegal guns.

Why would they? The NRA for all their faults, promote responsible gun ownership. But then again.. that doesn’t really fit with your bias agenda now does it?

Great Question about the NRA paying a reimbursement. They have advocated an armed society for years--the more guns the better. This has turned out to be a nightmare for so many law abiding citizens.
