Reclusive Taliban leader says fighters infiltrating Afghan forces

The Taliban's elusive leader boasted fighters are infiltrating Afghanistan's security forces, saying they are attacking NATO-led forces on their bases, according to a statement purported to be from Mullah Mohammed Omar.

The statement posted Thursday to militant websites follows news that six Americans troops and one British soldier were killed in "green-on-blue" separate attacks, the latest in a series of assaults this year carried out by Afghans clad in security force uniforms.

"Many Afghans in the rank and files of the enemy have shown a willingness to help the (Taliban) in a shrewd manner," said the statement obtained by the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors the activities of militant groups on the web.

"As a result, the foreign invaders and their allies at their military centers and bases are suffering crushing blows by these heroic soldiers."

CNN can't independently verify the authenticity of the statement, which was released in advance of the Eid al Fitr celebration that marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The Taliban is known to routinely claim responsibility for attacks and inflate casualty numbers.

Well, this is not a surprise at all.
Maybe, just maybe, this operation isn't so free after all, and we should get OUT of there already!

Right@ banasy , no surprise at all.
Our military presence on Arab soil started the resentment that turned into the bloody cycle of violence that we have been witnessing for the past more than a decade. Our military boot print in Afghanistan just fuels that cycle.

People of the United States of America,
As a Vietnam Vet, all I can say is it’s about GD Time we arm our people on a continuous basis, how many good soldiers have been basically murdered because our Government did not want to upset the Afghani Government or for what passes as one. I for one , am tired of the weekly American Body count in the Media out of Afghanistan, If it were up to me, If these Taliban sympathizers who murder of soliders were captured ,I would have them executed immediately after interrogation as Spies and Saboteurs. You can not win this war or any other war for that matter with the Policies that are in place by this Administration. At this point, I would recommend a scorched earth policy to Save American Lives and advise the Afghan insurgent we have had it with these and IED attacks
