Dismembered remains in Toronto from woman, 41, police say

[Updated at 12:36 p.m. ET] The body parts found in two Toronto area waterways in the past week belong to Guang Hua Liu, a 41-year-old woman from Toronto, police said Tuesday.

Liu was last seen on Friday, August 10, Peel Regional Police Inspector George Koekkoek said, according to a report from CNN affiliate CTV.

Liu was a Canadian citizen of Chinese descent who once owned a spa in Toronto, according to CTV.

Police have no suspects in the case, Koekkoek said, according to a report from the Toronto Star.

She had three children, one now an adult and two others who live with their father, CTV cited Koekkoek as saying.

[Posted at 10:08 a.m. ET] Police in the Toronto area were executing search warrants in the case of body parts found in two waterways in the past week, according to local news reports on Tuesday.

The parts - a head and foot found in the Credit River in Mississauga last Wednesday and Thursday, and an arm, two calves and a thigh found in West Highlands Creek in Toronto over the weekend - are likely from the same person, police said, according to a report in the Toronto Star. The two sites are about 60 kilometers (37 miles) apart.

"We have a female victim who unfortunately we’ve been able to find portions of her body in two jurisdictions," Peel Regional Police Sgt. Pete Brandwood said Monday, according to a report from CNN affiliate CBC.

He said there are "obvious similarities between the discovery of those body parts in Toronto and the recent discovery of our body parts here in Peel," the CBC reported.

The parts found on the weekend were in two different places in West Highlands Creek, according to the reports.

Cameron James came across the first set of remains Saturday while searching for golf balls, according to the Toronto Star.

"I came across a pungent smell. Upon further investigation it looked life a loaf of ham, and then I looked closer - it's not a ham, it's not a cow, it looked like a human calf," James said in an interview with the CBC.

A Toronto Star reporter discovered the second set of remains in the creek on Sunday when he nearly tripped over a garbage bag floating in the creek.

"Somebody's been chopped up, put in this bag and thrown in the river - and that's pretty sick," the reporter, Dale Brazao, said in an interview with the CBC.

Last Wednesday and Thursday, a head and a foot were found about a kilometer (0.6 mile) apart along the Credit River, which runs near Hewick Meadows Park in Mississauga, a city of 700,000 west of Toronto and not far from Lake Ontario.

Police said Monday they are closer to identifying the victim, according to the news reports.  The Toronto Sun, citing an unnamed police source, said the remains may be linked to a missing Scarborough woman. Scarborough is the Toronto neighborhood where the remains were found over the weekend.

Peel Regional Police Constable Fiona Thivierge said police are being methodical in the investigation.

"It’s just a question of trying to be as patient as possible and allow the evidence to take us where it needs to go in order to get answers to this puzzling situation," the CBC quoted her as saying.

Once the victim is identified, police can then look for a suspect, Thivierge told the Star.

“In order to have a suspect they’d need to know who the victim is,” she told the Star.

The case is the second involving body parts to make big headlines in Canada this year.

In May, police found a human torso in a trash bin outside a Montreal apartment. The victim's hand and foot were mailed to the headquarters of Canada's two main political parties in Ottawa.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, a 29-year-old porn actor, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in that case in June. He pleaded not guilty.

Body parts linked to the Magnotta case were also mailed to schools in British Columbia, according to authorities.

I pray with all my heart, this is the work
of the Craigslist killer... similar M.O.'s. A
guy like that never stops til he's caught,
with few exceptions. I wonder if this 'INN'
is a timeshare? People from New York City
or Long Island vacation there all the time.

    Thoughts and prayers,
    Hope

Good thing Canada doesn't allow guns! Maybe she would have been shot, too! Maybe Canada should ban water? And knives? And axes? And anything else that could be used for no good?

That's bull! We allow guns, You can use guns for hunting, and target practice, and you can own as many as you want! I have a Mosin Nagant myself. Difference is, we're not a nation built around a culture of guns. We dont owe our independance to Guns. we don't have a NRA that influences politics. and the signle best law we have, "It is illegal to carry a concealed weapon" in Canada only three kinds of people carry a concealed weapon. Undercover Cops, Gang members, and Killers. I was in Texas, and I went to a restaurant, and it said on the sign "Check in your weapon" mind boggling! you need to take your gun to a restaurant?!?!

I got two of them attack beavers I keep in a pen. When we go sturgeon fishing I tie a rope to their tail and let em swum out and catch me a fish. Sometimes sturgeon. Sometimes salmon. Then I pull them beaver back in. They are my pals.

This is so disgusting. How on earth can one human do this to another. Having that much hate in my soul for another human is incomprehensible. I hope the Canadian authorities can find the sick S O B.

My thoughts exactly. We have lots of alligators here in our costal waterways. Canadian gators. They can take off a leg in one chomp. Me an my friend Jed were out fishing one day and saw a gator leap clean out of the water and grab a Canadian goose in mid flight. Wish I'd had my video camera with me. It was Jim dandy good.

Luka Magnotta is no large fish...a rabid Croc or Alligator is more like it. So when is Magnotta going to be put through the shredder? I have a woodchipping machine waiting for him. The animal was so greedy, he had to taste blood AGAIN. Tell Magnotta I lust after him, that I want him, every inch of him...BURNED TO A CRISP.

Really. What would move an individual to consider dismembering a human body or drowning a fetus or newborn?
    Something sinister, no doubt.

Go back 50 years and ask a pregnant woman what she plans on doing with her unborn baby, and ask the same question today. See?
So many more people consider taking the life (yes, "it" IS alive no matter what you call it) that's GROWING inside of theor wombs today than in years past.
Exactly what happened to change your way of thinking?

Was them girl babies? I heard on the news they are always doing that sort of thing over in Chineese land. They don't like girl babies over there or something. I think all kids are precious myself.

Why? Whas this woman pregnant? What does abortion have to do with this thread? Nothing. This is about a woman who was murdered, and making it about anything else is as stupid as the guys who keeps bringing up Obama.

Thank you Rael. This is about a woman who was murdered and her body dismembered. Did you ever stop to think she might have been alive still when the freak did this do her, Phillip? It has absolutely nothing to do with abortion so stop trying to change the subject. This is a very serious injustice here that has happened to this poor woman. Let's concentrate on finding her killer and putting him or her away. Man, there are some really sick people out there. I hope this is not a copycat return of The Cleveland Torso Murders.

This is about those who mourn for the victims without a peep about the perps. Be the victims a hacked-up body or a drowned potential Alerican.
What would cause the thought of hacking-up a human body or killing whatever it is that's growing in a womb?
Something crude and vulgar, no doubt.

Why, yes. The thought of making it legal for even a girl to decide over life and death of an unborn baby never occured to any of US before mind-altering drugs became so readily available.
Sure, throughout history there have been those whom have shown little respect for life. But during the 1960s and 70s, virtually our entire nation changed it's mind on matters such as abortion and sodomy. (except President Obama who insists on keeping sodomy outlawed for active-duty soldiers, ty)
It's why we call them "mind-altering drugs". And it's why a nation that spends more on drugs than on national defense for 50 years has had it's mind changed...altered by drugs.
Notice, that even though pharmaceutical drug use is very commonplace nowadays, very few speak of them, and those that do praise Seroquel being used to treat PTSD, for example. (even though the makers of Seroquel claim it does nothing for PTSD, and the FDA refuses to approve Seroquel for the treatment of PTSD) Doctor praise what the FDA does not approve.
