Armstrong stops fight against doping probe

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said early Friday it will strip Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles and impose a lifetime ban, a move that came just hours after the cyclist announced he would no longer fight charges of illegal doping.

A formal announcement by the USADA is expected later in the day, "but his choosing not to contest the charges means that there will be a lifetime ban and a loss of all results beginning from August 1, 1998," agency spokeswoman Annie Skinner told CNN in an emailed statement.

Even so, there is a question about whether the USADA - a quasi-government agency recognized as the official anti-doping agency for Olympic, Pan American and Paralympic sports in the United States - has the authority to take action against Armstrong.

The International Cycling Federation, whom Armstrong has said should be the arbiter in his case, has opposed the American agency's actions by claiming it has jurisdiction. That position has been recently backed by USA Cycling, the official cycling organization recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee.

  2. What What

The guy passed hundreds of test, but was constantly bombarded with claimed of doping, I really feel for the guy, I would give up the fight too. A guy can only take so much harassment.

Lance knew hot to take the tests. Time and amounts of the doping injections. There are witnesses who have seen him doping.

So he can fight cancer, but not the U.S. Anti-doping agency?

Maybe Lance should connect the dots – Doping...Cancer...hmmm...maybe he should come clean, so others don't suffer the same fate as him.

Lance is so guilty. Let's do the trial and get it over with.

I think the bigger question here is what is the US Postal Service doing sponsoring a cycling team....?

The USPS stopped sponsoring the team in 2004 when Discovery took over.

What you do in the dark, ALWAYS comes out in the light. Lance be a real man and take your lumps. You have no credibility anymore.

He passes the tests because he knew hot much of the drug to take, and time oriented in order to not get in doping trouble.

Dude, would you please stop typing "hot" when you mean "how"? It's annoying.

If he was really as innocent as he claims, there would be evidence to back him up. They're not just going to invest a ton of time and money on a witch hunt for a guy that's never tested positive. USDA must have something, and I'm sure they'll release it once this is over.

The way you 'back up' your innocence is by passing 100s if tests, which he has done.

How else do you prove you didn't do something? Can you prove you didn't take cocaine on March 13, 2008? How would you prove that?

It only takes 1 bad test though. He could have doped 1 time and that's enough to screw up his entire career. 100's of clean tests mean nothing if he has 1 dirty one.

If I was on a team and all my teammates accused me of doping, either they're ALL lying or I'm in denial. All of his teammates have admitted to doping with Lance. I guess they're all out to get more innocent Lance. Gimme a break. And the kicker... a lot of people are speculating the drugs he was taking may have CAUSED his cancer.

Maybe now floyd landis will have some justification in being a whistle blower . He got busted so why not armstrong these drugs have been in use for many years . Its about time that this group of people put a stop to this usage . And get these guys tested every month to insure that this stops in all sports . Many pro riders dont use , and dont have a fair advantage over tthe top names no wonder they dont win they are not cheating . So now maybe landis can lose some sleep yea right!

Nice guy, but according to my friends that are into cycling, it was like what all the other golfers knew about Tiger..they knew he was doing it but didn't want to kill the golden goose. he drew in the fans..we may never know for sure..

Doping is common in cycling. Armstrong just dodged it from making his tests look ok. Actually he was taking drugs and knew how to test positive. The human body gets rid of these chemicals at a certain time frame. Lance knew what to do.

Except they do random drug tests....its impossible to just "quit" a week before the drug test when the test could come any day of the year.

  12. Armstrong doped

Apparently, we are to believe that most of the TdF racers doped...but not Armstrong. All of his good racing buddies doped..but not Armstrong. Armstrong is as pure as the wind driven snow, right? Also, anyone interested in buying a bridge?

Zero evidence, so some jerks have to come up with some BS like wjeri there did. Why the heck do people insist on assuming guilt? Innocent until proven guily and there IS NO EVIDENCE!

All of his teammates testifying that they doped with him. That's evidence enough for me. Plenty of other athletes tested clean their whole careers only to be caught later. Lance is no different.
