Israeli court: American protester Rachel Corrie's death an accident

Nine years after an American activist was crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer, an Israeli civil court ruled Tuesday that Rachel Corrie's death was an accident.

Corrie, 23, was killed in 2003 while trying to block the bulldozer from razing Palestinian homes.

On Tuesday, a judge in Haifa said the family has no rights to damages.

Corrie, an American peace activist and human rights defender, was nonviolently protesting the demolition of Palestinian civilian homes in Rafah, Gaza, when she was fatally struck. She was working with the Palestinian-led International Solidarity Movement when she died.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense said in 2010 that it regrets Corrie's death. "But she was in a known combat area, so the (Israeli Defense Forces) does not have responsibility," a spokesman told CNN. "The case is with the court, and they will make their decision."

Would a Jewish protester behaving did Rachael Corrie have been crushed? This excerpt from Times of India, June 18, 2012, suggests not.

RABBI OVADIA Rabbi Ovadia Yosef is the former Chief Rabbi of Israel and the spiritual leader of the Shas party Israels “kingmaker” party . In a sermon given on Saturday on laws concerning what non-Jews are permitted to do on Shabbat, Yosef said: "Goyim [non-Jews] were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world – only to serve the People of Israel. Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat." According to Yosef, death has "no dominion" over non-Jews in Israel. "With gentiles, it will be like any person – they need to die, but [God] will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant... That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew.”

MENACHEM BEGIN "Our race is the Master Race. We Jews are divine gods on this planet. We are as different from the inferior races as they are from insects. In fact, compared to our race, other races are beasts and animals, cattle at best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Our destiny is to rule over the inferior races. Our earthly kingdom will be ruled by our leader with a rod of iron. The masses will lick our feet and serve us as our slaves."

With all due respect, sir, I could publish a sermon by Rev. Fred Phelps of the Westboro baptist church that has the same kind of hateful rhetoric in it...
Oh, and that dolt in Florida whose name escapes me right now...
The two men you have quoted does not represent the Jewish people anymore than Fred Phelps represents the Christian people.
We are all small cogs in the bigger picture, and bigotry is an equal-opportunity incitor for hate everywhere.

      Rip, Miss Corrie.

This is truly disgusting. I was in the past a strong supporter of the Isreali plight. My father helped to liberate Auschwitz in WWII. However, nowadays Isreal does not seem to be responsible for much of anything, mostly just senseless acts of aggression on their neighbors that go unchecked because we (the US) write them a blank check. Now they are also allowed to kill US citizens without any fear of reprisal. The future looks bleak for Isreal as the US cannot continue to condone this kind of idiocy and mean spiritedness.

Rabbi Ovaida the spritual leader of the ruling Shaas is a misguided sociopath, a danger to society at large. His philosophy revolves around annihilation of all Arabs and subjugation of all non-Jews. He has been responsible for inciting terrorist acts against non-Jews. He recently asked Jews everywhere to pray for annihilation of Iran.
And Netanyahu was reported by Haaretz to have been consulting the Rabbi on Iran invasion.

I feel sad for the family of Rachel Corrie and lament the indifference of Americans including the State Dept to this murder.
What else would the family expect from an Israeli court?

my comment is intentionally cynical in that hatred and racism is a friend of no one...the arabs and jews are of the same bloodline ...they both declare they are descendants of abraham, really cousins and brothers... butchoo never kno' it for they aren't behaving like children of God...the longest family feud...get over it's time to extend the olive branch...

I wish this ruling meant Hamas would STFU. But alas.

All you need to know about Hamas misinformation is to look up the before and after pictures they like to show, suggesting the two were minutes apart at the exact same location. Note the change in topography. Lack of trees in the background in one picture, but not the other. My, that is a powerful bulldozer, that could change many square miles of landscape in a few short seconds.

Here's a thought – when you are protesting in an area with heavy machinery............LOOK OUT !!!! Sometimes they can't see you, especially if there are a bunch of other protesters distracting them.

Did we expect any other outcome? KInda like the krakkers down south rendering verdicts of not guilty to people who lynched blacks.
