Panetta suggests bin Laden book author could be penalized

A former Navy SEAL who wrote a book about his personal account of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden could be penalized for not first seeking military approval of its contents before publication, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said.
"I think we have to take steps to make clear to him and to the American people that we're not going to accept this kind of behavior," Panetta told CBS' "This Morning" program, which broadcast the interview on Tuesday.
"If we don't, then everybody else who pledges to ensure that that doesn't happen is going to get the wrong signal that somehow they can do it without any penalty," Panetta said.
Newly published "No Easy Day" was written by Matt Bissonnette under the pseudonym Mark Owen. The book was not pre-approved by the Pentagon.

If Bissonnette gave 50% of the proceeds from the book to the Toys-For-Tots program. Do you honestly believe the end result would of been any different?
Seal Team 6 is living proof, with a big enough hammer and enough grease, you can put anything anywhere!

Let me get this strait. The world's best special forces team goes into a building, catches an unarmed bin Laden, kills him and throws his body in the ocean because of "religious respect"? Like the respect they gave Gaddafi and Saddam?
A couple "crazy conspiracy" questions here. Detainees in Guantanamo are being held and dying without charges because the POTUS says they may have pertinent terrorist activity information, right? Don't you think it's possible that the number 1 terrorist in the world that has been evading the most highly competent, most sophisticated, technically advanced armed forces in the HISTORY of the world for 11 years, might have just a little bit of relevant terrorist activity information? Could not the greatest special forces of all time capture him alive to gain insight? Now a seal is being publicly scolded by Panetta for writing an "unauthorized" version of the supposed events? Bwahahaha!
Oh, cointelpro's you've worked overtime on this one but once again you are exposed and your public scolding of this seal is fooling only the most naive. You had a better shot if you just left it alone but as usual you think everyone is stupid. Thanks for the funny pages today! 🙂

The mission was "Capture or Kill" otherwise why send a group of brave young men in harms way? If killing were the entire motive a multi missile strike would have accomplished that. The forensics could be taken care of later. We did the right thing. Bravo Zulu.

A very well known suspected criminal is killed before his court date, and it's a pep rally? Really? It's about a pep rally?

And, omg tony! The mission was kill, NOT "capture or kill" as you just made up. President Obama gave the order to KILL...not capture or kill.
You are hereby awardeed todays 'pull your head out of your ass' award. Congrats.

Sorry, I was just quoting the author of the book in question! And logically a big bomb would have insured the death of everyone in the safe house! Sometimes it's more prudent to think before you post?

Imagine a trial of Usama bin Laden. Even just a GITMO thingy. Surely he was worth more to US security alive than dead. His wives...women hear things you know. And over decades, many things. Yet they speak not. Stifled, but at least alive.
Usama bin Laden appeared on the FBI's most wanted fugitives from justice list in 1998, long before 9/11. How many of his crimes will remain unsolved since he is dead and no longer able to be convicted or prosecuted? Many, no doubt.
Thank goodness Sybel D. Edmonds and 24 Dept. of Defense employees solved the crime of 9/11. Now if President Obama would simply lift Bush's federal gag orders on them, everyone would know the truth about 9/11.

The president spills secrets about national security and current ops to boost his popularity rating.

Congress regularly spills the beans on national security.

A Navy Seal who was involved in one of the most interesting missions of our generation that we all want to know about and suddenly they want to shut him up and keep him from selling the book. Either the lies they have told us about the operation aren't true and they are worried – or maybe he beat them to the punch with his book.

If they haven't had a chance to review his book before release then how do they know it contains any classified information .... maybe they are just worried it contradicts their own lies.... How interesting.

Maybe Panetta ought to be paying more attention to real defense matters like protection our interests abroad (Libya and Egypt) and less time trying to cover up the lies of politicians.

    Panetta needs to go.

THIS "EX SEAL" is a disgrace to his fellow seals! There is NO excuse for what he has done!! Capture or Kill OSB?
Are we that stupid? NO question for me. KILL him on sight! Job well done! IF captured the ONLY thing that would have happened is that all these so called "do gooder" groups would have been screaming about his rights! He had NO RIGHTS!! We even went so far as to give him a muslim burial! He didn't even deserve that! This "guy" has lost his privelege to any mention of being a Seal! He has betrayed his oath, his EX-seal team members, and seals everywhere!

A former Navy SEAL who wrote the book should penalized. It's so much about the book. It's about the Elite Seal operation they do. A lot of things best not talk about. Now the media is trying to find out the names of the rest of Seal Team 6 member Bad move The got your name with a picture. If I was the other Seal 6 Member I would cut him loose now no nothing ASAP!!!!!!
