Protesters climb U.S. Embassy walls in Cairo

[Updated at 5:38 p.m. ET] Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and tore down the American flag, apparently in protest of a film thought to insult the Prophet Mohammed.

A volley of warning shots were fired as a large crowd gathered around the compound, said CNN producer Mohammed Fahmy, who was on the scene, though it is not clear who fired the shots.

Egyptian police and army personnel have since formed defensive lines around the facility in an effort to prevent the demonstrators from advancing farther, but not before the protesters affixed their standard atop the embassy.

The black flag, which hangs atop a ladder inside the compound, is adorned with white characters that read, "There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger," an emblem often used in al Qaeda propaganda.

It was unclear which film upset the protesters.

Perfect reason why Obama must go, Maybe the Muslims will give a job in Egypt. No more aid for Egypt or Pakistan

Replace the flag with an effigy of Mohammed until they restore Old Glory to her rightful place.

IHard liners are clearly trying to take advantage of 9/11 to scare us and test President Morsi's loyalty to extreme political Islam. I wouldn't be surprised if this is more of a message to the Muslim Brotherhood than it is a message to the United States.

Mohammed was a sadistic/pedofile freak. Yet these Muslims worhip him????
And the Muslims here wonder why they need to live in fear? Their "kin" are causing trouble as usual.

We need to make a movie about the evils of the prophet Mohammed and then have him shaved bald and beardless at the end of the movie. He was the dregs of the Earth. Portray him as such.

Easy fix. Repeal any aid that is being given to the country. Pull out our embassy, cut political ties with them. Let them get manhandled by Israel. Easy as pie.

Agree but it won't happen. You forget who is President. We will be lucky if he doesn't give them 8$87 Billion of TARP taxpayer money so that they can set up their own Solyndra!!! TD01

Wasn't there some legal fight recently to allow a mosque to be built near the 9//1 site?

Close down the embassy, discontinue all aid to Egypt, and take the money that went to Egypt to make a big, fortified wall with missles, guns, drones. monitors, and other advanced equipment between Egypt and Israel. Tell them that any attack on Americans manning the wall will be considered an act of war against the US and will result in instant and total retaliation, and would guarantee that all government buildings and communications in Egypt will be destroyed. Tell them that we look forward to their next move against us so that we can finish this.

And all of this because of a protest? You are quite a violent person yourself. I think you need to struggle with the anger and violence in your own soul if you rare responding to a story about a protest with an extremely aggressive and hostile fantasy. I am not joking... Good luck to you, I am worried.

We certainly could use that money to pay down our national debt which is in the trillions!! Instead of spending it elsewhere where we are either not welcome or just hated. Then..tighten our immigration laws & put a lot of these countries on some type of black list. Certainly pull out all troops out if not on US soil. Too much US blood being shed in countries we are trying to help. Last but not least the military to a point where it can respond to a treat wihtout having to send in troops & strong enough to take out NK if need to. Yea... I like that!
