Protesters climb U.S. Embassy walls in Cairo

[Updated at 5:38 p.m. ET] Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and tore down the American flag, apparently in protest of a film thought to insult the Prophet Mohammed.

A volley of warning shots were fired as a large crowd gathered around the compound, said CNN producer Mohammed Fahmy, who was on the scene, though it is not clear who fired the shots.

Egyptian police and army personnel have since formed defensive lines around the facility in an effort to prevent the demonstrators from advancing farther, but not before the protesters affixed their standard atop the embassy.

The black flag, which hangs atop a ladder inside the compound, is adorned with white characters that read, "There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger," an emblem often used in al Qaeda propaganda.

It was unclear which film upset the protesters.

The moment those 'activists' scaled the walls, they illigally entered US Soil and should have been shot on site. all those standing on the fence in the picture above the story should be picked off like target practice... but wait. our current (lack of) leadership is the reason these radicals are in power in the first place.

waita go on that policy decision to withdraw support for Mubarak. Things really worked out for the better ....

The uprising in Egypt we saw and the regime change will be compared to the Iranian revolution of the 70's - one of america's biggest foreign policy blunders in its history.

So Romney would have advocated shooting protestors in a foreign country? I don't think so... You seem excessively violent. Why do you advocate shooting a bunch of people who were protesting. They shouldn't have been there, but I think you need to look at your own soul and consider why you feel so angry that an embassy in a distant land was the site of a protest.

And yes, Mr. Former Marine. the Iranian revolution was a huge blunder, but not for the reasons you seem to think. We supported a dictator there for decades prior to the Islamic Revolution, allowing the anger and resentment of hard-line Iranians to grow and ferment. In an inhumane dictatorial environment, hard dictatorial opposition is likely to grow. Then when the Shah was overthrown and tossed out of his own country, we foolishly allowed him to come to the United States for medical treatment. Then we criticized President Carter when he sent a rescue mission to Iran, which was a MILITARY failure because errors were made and the equipment used could not stand up tot eh weather conditions. We made lots of blunders there indeed...

nope. wasn't talking about Romney. Was talking of our leadership in general .. both sides. I should have clarified. I forgot you modern democrats can not see past race, division, and hate. Instantly becuase I said something about leadership, I am full of hate and must be talking about Obama.. nice try but no. And secondly, Yes. You must protect your ground. We let them walk over us here (btw, we appologized to them for them overrunning our embassy.. explain that one) and they will do it again. this will happen throughout the region and frankly i look forward to it. I want the world to see what we have so foolishly created in the Arab world. We thought by countering certain regimes we could put weaker powers in place that would back us by throwing money thier way. it didn't work. now the state dept and white house look like fools. bad time to be a politician up for re-election.

also I noticed something interesting in your second reply..... that was a MILITARY mistake you say.... okay I'll accept that, then that would make the Osama raid a MILITARY success as well not a PRESIDENTIAL one like our current Prez has made the point to show again and again.

Islam has been a thorn in our side since America was born. Libyan pirates, funded by the Libyan kingodm, thought that they had divine right to hijack our commercial boats because we were "infidels".We had to send in the Marines to deal with them ("shores of Tripoli").

I am pretty sick of these religious kooks. I think that we should withdraw all bribe money, er "international aid" and let them kill each other off.

With the interwebs, we could watch it all happen!

Aren't these President Obama's friends. The underclass he help set free in Egypt. Great foreign policy achievements these last 3.74 years. Managed to destroy or distance the USA from its friends and allies and leave the world some liberal social experiment based on the current US regimes childish view of the world that everyone is the exact same and all they need is some version of democracy. How's that working for ya? Nice world the adults are going to have to clean up when the teenagers in the White House are finally evicted from their experimental government and reality finally returns to the USA federal government if the rest of the free world and our American cousins are so fortunate to have enough sane American's left to vote in November...Does anyone on any side of the political spectrum in the US believe 4 more years of this insanity is going to result in them having better lives in anyway, financial or security wise. And don't think for second those two Oceans and at least one strong ally on your boarder is going to protect you given who is in power today. A Obama's spiritual leader said 11 years ago after the declaration of war on 9-11 through tragic loss of life, "Americas' Chickens are coming home to roost" I just never thought his crazy prophecy was based on what Obama and his regime were going to do not his crazy perspective on America's past and previous foreign policy. America please come to your sense and elect adults ready to deal with grown up problems and start running your country like your home and community with integrity and mature decision making not electing people who use lies and the politics of division to set factions of your society at each other. You have the only nation on earth formed and founded on an ideal please don't screw this up and through it away as the rest of the world doesn't have what you have got and individual humans deserve respect instead of being pitted against various collectives and groups...
