No bombs found after evacuations at 2 universities

[Updated at 1:51 p.m. ET] No explosives were found at two U.S. universities that had ordered evacuations after they received bomb threats Friday morning, officials said.

The evacuations happened at the University of Texas at Austin and North Dakota State University. People were allowed back into the University of Texas buildings at noon CT Friday, though Friday's classes have been canceled, the school said on its website.

Police and federal authorities, including a bomb squad, investigated the Texas threats. A University of Texas police spokesman told CNN that "it was a general bomb threat on campus." A university spokeswoman told CNN affiliate KXAN that a male claiming to be with al Qaeda called the university and said that bombs were placed all over campus, and that they would go off at about 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET).

About 51,000 students attend the flagship university, which is located in central Texas. University spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon said that at any time up to 70,000 people could be on campus.

North Dakota State University told its students and employees to leave campus entirely by 10:15 a.m. CT, according to its website. A NDSU official later said that the campus had been swept, and classes would resume at 2 p.m. CT.

"Some of yall think that this is a joke" I think it was an attempt to waste money and time and possibly to convince people that al-Qaeda has become brave enough to actually attack us inside the USA. So, yeah, it was a joke. Maybe by you, Tex?

I really doubt if it is Al Queda they are going to give warning...

Exactly – AQ would not give a warning. Some idiot either didn't study for an exam or someone who is trying to instigate more with the Middle East rioting against American Embassies. They won't think it was such a good idea after they get arrested.

proves even some militant muslims living in usa, as if that wasnt proven before by the fact so many head overseas to fight our boys by recruitment in local american mosques

It doesn't prove anything. A student prankster could have done this. This is no time to stir hatred here making wild unsubstantiated claims about "militant Muslims" in the US. It plays into the hands of real extremists.

what needs to be not lost in this is the horrible system used to notify the UT community. They received this threat at 8:30 but it took till 9:50(almost when the bombs were supposed to go off) for an evacuation to be ordered and UTPD has still yet to ask for a bomb squad to go to campus to check this out

Claimed to be with AL-queda? Well then this is a fake bomb threat. Al-Queda does not exist. It's a database of names of arms dealers and mercs. NOT an actual group. Bin laden was part of "Al-Queda" but his terrorsit GROUP was the Talban.

Lol...dont follow much news do you? UBL was only given a safe haven by the Taliban, not part of them. UBL created AQ along with Zawahiri, who is now in charge. And AQ is a terrorist group – not a "database of name of arms dealers and mercs".

As a Aggie who lived in Bryan when the bonfire collapsed I am compelled to call you out on such an ignorant post. I saw firsthand the busloads of Tea Sips coming to Aggieland to have prayer meetings for the dead and the community itself.

I doubt, and hope, that you are actually an Aggie, just a misguided Aggie fan.

Always remember that it's always a minority that we are really against... either a group of leaders or a group of radicals, but never the bulk of the millions upon millions of civilians who are just normal people like you and me.
