NFL owner more interested in winning election than winning games

His New York Jets are struggling on the field, but team owner Robert Wood "Woody" Johnson told Bloomberg News today that it's more important to him to see Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan get elected.

Johnson, chairman of Johnson Co. and a great-great-grandson of the founder of Johnson & Johnson, is the New York state chairman of the Romney-Ryan campaign.

His Jets are 2-2 this season, and fans are smarting after Sunday's 34-0 pounding at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. Nevertheless, Johnson has his priorities. When an interviewer on Bloomberg Television's "Market Makers" asked him whether football or politics was more important, Johnson responded:

"Well, I think you always have to put country first. So I think it’s very, very important, not only for us but in particular for our kids and grandkids, that this election come off with Mitt Romney and Ryan as president and vice president.”

That might be the best news coach Rex Ryan and beleaguered quarterback Mark Sanchez will hear all week.

The Jets are just like the Republican Party – they keep doing the same wrong thing over and over. That is why they got smashed by the 49ers. They suck today, tomorrow and until this clown owner dies. I have always enjoyed watching them lose BTW Rob 🙂

No, he's making a courageous statement.. He is showing the same value system that all Conservatives have. Our country is more important than ourselves. We are suffering economically right now, but we have to get rid of Obama. If we allow him to stay in office, we will continue to suffer economically, but we will suffer more in the freedoms we relinquish to this socialist muslim. Our country is much more important than who wins the Super Bowl this year, or any year. Because without our economic and social freedoms, football and all other things we value will cease to exist.

I'm an Eisenhower conservative and I don't see what "statement" he is making. Other than "I have a huge pile of cash and its MINE MINE MINE!!" Gimmie Gimme Gimmie!! MINE MINE MINE!! That is pretty much the sum total of the 1%s message. As the ship is sinking they want their money so they can move it somewhere else and get off the sinking ship. You think this guy is an American? These people are "international" citizens, they spend as much of their time in Europe and Asia as they do in the US anymore and they have no loyalty to this country. Never did, never will. But there are 150 million people who are all too willing to do their bidding ... the 1% can't function without its 49%+ of willing dupes.

Round 2 of George W. Bush here we go if these guys get their way ... and that worked out so well for us all didn't it. Thank you sir may we have another ...

Dude, don't you get it? There have been numerous attempts to help people get the skills to be able to have those jobs, and others. The GOP has been blocking anything that would help create jobs, strengthen the economy, help foreign policy, etc. for FOUR YEARS. They've said over and over again their number one priority is to get back into power.

Odd that you're going to vote for the party that's been deliberately tanking the country for four years just to get back into power, and your reasoning is that we need more of what they've been preventing.

Rob – another example of your myopic thinking and an example of how conservatives really have little sense of community. They don't look at the country as a whole – as one nation. They look at the country as a method to profit individually at the expense of the less fortunate. Romney takes everything he can get and then bemoans the system that he takes advantage of – he profits from abortion but says he is pro-life. He makes vile comments but whines for an apology when the behavior is directed at him. He writes off half the country (what kind of president does that?). In short he panders to anyone that he thinks will give him his vote, all the while continuing his deceitful ways (tax returns? money in Swiss and Cayman Island accounts?). And the greedy or stupid pretend that this is a good way. It is not.

Rob's right – and it's a great example of why Rmoney and Lyan shouldn't be elected. They don't care about much more than the bottom line. For them, and the GOP, the bottom line is getting back into power. Just like Rmoney's "business" savvy – he's good at buying and DISMANTLING companies to make a profit for HIM.

As long as the Jets are making money, who cares if they're a terrible team? Not "Woody"

As long as the GOP gets back into power, who cares if they trash the country? Not "Willard"

If it DOES get burglarized, who do you think keeps your insurance company honest for your claim? Did you string phone lines to every customer that ever called you? Did you run water and electricity to you home and business? Who keeps your business neighbor from remodeling his property at the expense of damage to yours? Who picks up your trash? Who cleans your sewage?

Grow up and stop being so self-important. Obama never said that he built your business. He correctly recognized the role government at the municipal, state and federal level plays in the business world.

hey chi, everything you named was paid for by taxpayers. obama had little to do with it other than file his taxes. i dont think that any party gets to claim that they built any business. if you start giving away credit for building basic infrastructure then you may as well also say, your mother didnt have you, the roads to get to the hospital, the phone you used to call the doctor and the electricity for the lights were responsible for your delivery. tell her that and see her reaction....

There’s some working man out there and his little boy who must be getting pretty used to betrayal by now. They root for the home team for years, want to be proud of the local team, bleed a little with each loss, but keep coming back year after year holding hope for a better tomorrow. Meanwhile, the upper 1% of the football structure pockets the money and laughs off their pain. Him and his candidate Mitt aspire to bigger things – bigger betrayal.

Do you know how many millionaires there are in the US? Over a million.. We pay taxes on EARNED INCOME, not capital gains (until the benefit of the gains are taken).. The reason that is?? So that Millionaires will leave their MILLIONS invested in companies so 1diots like you can have a 9-5 job. We know you dont have the intelligence to run a company, so we hand you a broom. Investment, thats the reason we DO NOT want to increase taxes on wealthy business owners. They will take the money OUT of the companies and there will be less money to pay employees. There are no rocket scientist liberals, but none are needed because this is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.. Its simple economics. Obama is RAP1NG you 1diot liberals for all you have. First off, most scientists (yes including rocket scientists) are lliberals. You know it actually helps when you believe in science and facts. Second, the concept that the wealthy need their taxes kept low so that they keep it invested in business and create more jobs is a giant pile of BS. How many jobs have rich dbags like yourself created since your taxes have been historically low? Oh that's right not nearly as many as when you were paying 70%. So instead of running your mouth maybe you should take some of that money and invest it in a tiny bit of education.

Your understanding of how finance works is off. Some what like your ability to present a cogent argument. . go back to school and retake Macro economics. Stocks are shares in the company that pays dividends when there is a profit. Selling a stock doesn't do squat for the company's bottom line and doesn't affect salaries for the average working person. Money earned as a dividend is still money earned and is taxed at a much lower rate than straight salary or piece work. Wealth is only of real value when you spend it, either for investment or personal expenditures.

And wages should be the smallest income taxed. C. Gains and the like should be taxed much higher. Wages are not income, they are an even exchange of time and labor for money. You lose 40 of your time and energy and replace it with money, there is no income. Capitol gains and corporate income are both pure profit, and should be taxed to the hilt.

They paid nothing? BS! Everytime the left wants to point out the fallacy of the 47% they point out the other sales, real estate, gas, medicare, social security, state, local, sales and myriad other taxes that are as accepted as the air that we breathe so acknowledge that yes, they paid those taxes no differently than any other consumer.

That is a lie with a typical Republican spin. The stat is people that did not pay FEDERAL INCOME TAX. They still pay other taxes. And really, considering how little some of those people make, what do you expect.

youve posted this copy and paste before.

if the person made a million but had previous years losses they would get to write off those losses. not only is this legal, but logical, if you believe in an income tax at all.

Where exactly does the money they earn by not working come from, if not from the pockets of the taxpayers?

These guys are pulling millions and billions of dollars out of the US economy and holding on to it. They're keeping it out of circulation. That's less money not only for the government to function on, but less money for the rest of the country to earn. And they keep doing it, and keep doing it, and keep doing it. This is that whole 1% thing, you know. 99% of the money is in the hands of 1% of the people? And people scream that the value of the dollar is falling, that there isn't enough money to go around, but at the same time, you want to not only allow these guys to keep hoarding the money but give them more?

Someone tell me how this make sense, please.

Did u know Obama's Job Czar Jeffery Immelt pays no taxes? Check it out GE shipped majority of their jobs overseas and pays $0 in corporate taxes even though they made $5 Billions on profits. U think that Obama with his the "rich does not pay their fair share" motto, who had unfettered majority Congress in his 1st 2 yrs and passed everything he wanted would have fixed that....... that is if he really wanted to. LOL!!! Obama says one thing to the morons like you stupid enough to believe, but does nothing about it. And the sheeple goes Ba-ba-ba!! lol!

If Obama will not do it we will get someone else. Robme and Lyin' are not right for us. We will get our own candidates in by 2016. Get ready for a government shake up. The people of the working class need to get together, one way or the other we will get a president for the people, it is not Romney.

It's from the same report the 47% came from. That report also says that if you consider payroll taxes, the number is only 18% that aren't paying those. That 18% are the retired, disabled, idle people living on savings, and the welfare cases, not the 47% people like to claim. The entire report was based on current income, it didn't consider existing wealth since the government doesn't routinely track that for tax purposes.

A million in annual income or a million in assets? There is a huge difference. If you have a million in your house and/or in the bank then good for you – there is no tax to pay as you have already been taxed on that. But yes it is funny that they are still classed as victims by Romney.
