Tigers sweep Yankees, head to World Series

The Detroit Tigers at various times this summer looked like they might not make the playoffs. Now they're going to the World Series.

The underdog Tigers beat the Yankees 8-1 on Thursday evening in Detroit, completing a four-game sweep of the New York club in the American League Championship Series.

Detroit, heading to its second World Series in seven years, will face either the St. Louis Cardinals or the San Francisco Giants next.

Of the five American League playoff clubs, the Tigers had the worst record (88-74). They trailed the White Sox for the Central Division's automatic playoff spot for part of the season, but won eight of their last 10 regular-season games to clinch the division.

It was nice to see empty seats at Yankee Stadium..people are tired of the costs–parking, tickets, soda, hot dog. They are a cashman team of big salaries and little heart.

More like front-running loser Yankee fans saw the handwriting on the wall, and saw their bunch of bullies getting bullied.

Yankee fans are like mangey dogs. Give them one good kick in the chops, and they scrurry away.....

The Yankees epitomize everything that is wrong with baseball. Overpaid arrogant brats that try to purchase a World Series every year. Nothing warms my heart like seeing their soulless team get destroyed by someone who deserves to win.

It is soooo nice to see something besides money win. Derek J is the only class act on the Yankees. How many people are out there who feel the same way abouy Jerry Jones and his inflated ego and his overrated Cowboys?

How were the Tigers the underdog? Seems to me the Yankees didn't dominate the O's in that series either.

Congrats Detroit. The Yankees gave that one away; but no excuses. We got beat. Detroit is due. I'm cheering for you.

Gave it away? Are you kidding me? The Yankees sucked, period. They couldn't beat a minor league team the way they played. I'm sooooo thrilled. I can't stand the Tigers, but I'm happy to see the Yankees fall flat on their faces.

A-Roid is a self-absorbed choker and juicer. And the Yankees throw money at him every year. Good riddance to the corporate pin-stripe losers who keep doing the same thing expecting different results.
