White House denies nuclear report

The White House denied a report Saturday that said the United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks over Iran’s nuclear program.

Such talks, as reported by The New York Times, would be a first.

“It’s not true that the United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks or any meeting after the American elections,” White House National Security Council Spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a statement.

“The President has made clear that he will prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and we will do what we must to achieve that. It has always been our goal for sanctions to pressure Iran to come in line with its obligations. The onus is on the Iranians to do so, otherwise they will continue to face crippling sanctions and increased pressure."

Citing an anonymous senior official within the Obama administration, The New York Times reported earlier Saturday that Iranian officials insisted the talks not start until after the presidential vote.

Secret discussions between U.S. and Iranian officials date almost to the start of Obama’s term, the newspaper said.

Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and to fill energy shortages, but Western leaders believe Tehran is an aspiring armed nuclear power. U.N. inspectors have also expressed doubts about the program's aims.

      HAHA! O'dumbo....

The big picture is the (USI) United States of Islam and it is scarry. Obama has set up their foundation for it. They should of called the "Arab Spring" to "Obama's Setup to USI" , This needs to be stopped now or our children, children will be dealing with what we didn't take care of now.

Isn't it great that those with the biggest mouths don't have to fight wars. The twit has 5 sons and like himself are cowards. They can't join the military because it might put them in danger. The twit and I got better things to do Chaney would make a great couple of Generals.

Direct US talks with Iran on the nuclear issue is a welcome thing, and a good way to break the impasse. It must be applauded, not repudiated. There is no purpose in engaging in rhetorical jingoism.

Agreed, however, we've been here before. The Iranians have used negotiations that lead nowhere to buy time to keep the centrifuges(both the ones we know about and the ones we don't) spinning.

The problem with a *trickle down* anything is it usually dries up half way down. Therefore, it doesnt trickle too far so the problem stays the same.

The White House says the Times article was wrong; there is no "one-on-one" agreement. That's what happens when a newspaper goes with unnamed sources. But FoxNews and the right-wingers will just say Obama is "lying"; they also say the New York Times is "lying" with every story they print... so how does that play out?

That would be a good idea, leave the israeli war monger out of the equation, might actually accomplish something.

The "Times" usually verifies "Anonymous Senior Officials" quotes before publication. Could this be an intentional leak? And to what end?
