Four dead in Wisconsin salon shooting, including gunman

[Updated 6:10 p.m.] Suspected shooter Radcliffe Haughton has been found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Brookfield police Chief Daniel Tushaus said. He was found inside the salon where the shooting occurred.

[Updated 5:38 p.m.] Froedtert Hospital - the Milwaukee medical facility where four shooting victims are being treated - has "resumed normal operations" after earlier being placed in lockdown mode, the hospital said on its website.

"We are certain that our environment is safe," the hospital said in an update published at 4:25 p.m. CT.

[Updated 5:20 p.m.] President Barack Obama learned of the shooting around 12:30 p.m. CT from homeland security adviser John Brennan and then had a follow-up call an hour later involving, among others, FBI Director Bob Mueller, a White House statement said.

"The president was informed that the shooting did not appear to be terrorism-related," the statement said.

Earlier, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker offered '"our thoughts and prayers to the victims" and "the law enforcement and community support they need to heal in the coming days."

[Updated 4:56 p.m.] Authorities working to clear the building where Sunday's bloody shooting took place "believe we have identified what is being described as an improvised explosive device," Brookfield police Chief Daniel Tushaus said.

The device is "hampering our clearing of that building," the chief added.

[Updated 4:41 p.m.] Authorities "believe" three of the seven people shot Sunday have died, according to Tushaus.

The shooting took place around 11 a.m. CT (noon ET), the chief explained.

Authorities have been able to track down a 2003 Mazda Protege linked to the suspect - which was found outside the city of Brookfield - but the suspect remains at large. He's been identified as Radcliffe Haughton, who Tushaus said weighs 270 pounds and stands just over 6 feet tall.

[Updated 4:10 p.m.] Bomb squad personnel are at the scene of the shooting, Brookfield police Lt. John Beth said, pointing to concerns there may be explosives at the site.

[Updated 3:42 p.m.] ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern identifies the suspected shooter as Radcliffe Haughton, 45, of Brown Deer, Wisconsin. The shooting is being investigated as a possible domestic-related incident, according to Ahern. The suspect remains at large.

[Updated 3:29 p.m.]ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern confirms to CNN that seven people were shot by a lone gunman at the Azana Hair Salon and Spa. "Employees said a man entered the salon, workers saw a firearm - a handgun of some sort," Ahern told CNN's Susan Candiotti. "An employee said to the gunman something like, 'If you're gonna rob the place, rob the place,' and then (the gunman) opened fire."

[Updated 2:24 p.m.] FBI and ATF agents are among the authorities at the scene, CNN affiliate WISN reports.

[Updated 2:07 p.m.] The nearby mall and some other buildings are on lockdown, CNN affiliates report.

[Updated 1:56 p.m.] CNN affiliate WTMJ reports authorities are looking for a suspect.

[Updated 1:54 p.m.] CNN affiliate WISN reports that a witness described seeing two women leaving the spa, apparently injured.  One crawled out and was taken by emergency responders.  The other was treated by emergency personnel in a squad car.

[Updated 1:32 p.m.] Hospital spokeswoman Nalissa Wienke tells CNN all four people in the emergency room appear to have non-critical injuries.  She could not say whether the injuries were due to gunshots.  At this time, the hospital does not believe it will need more staff, she said.

[Updated 1:28 p.m.] Numerous emergency vehicles are at a spa in Brookfield, Wisconsin, as local news agencies report a shooting took place.

Four people are in an emergency room, and another three are on their way, said Beth Strohbusch of Froedtert Hospital in nearby Milwaukee.

CNN affiliate WTMJ says the Waukesha Sheriff's Department confirmed there was a shooting, and that witnesses say it was either at or near the Azana Salon and Spa, which is across the road from Brookfield Square Mall.

CNN affiliate WISN called it a "mass shooting."

I do think liberals certainly care more about the "whole" and are less selfishly focused. But, do no wrong?? No. No liberal would say or even think that. Liberals are not as narrow-minded as the "new conservatives" and usually question themselves first. They don't push their religious beliefs on others – rather they try to accept the differences. You can't say that about the new Tea/GOPers.

Accept others religious differences? Don't kid yourself. If that was the case the ACLU would have been out of business years ago.

If an armed society is a peaceful society, and if people actually hesitated to commit a crime if they knew everyone around them was armed, then America's inner city ganglands would be the most peaceful places on earth.

    It's just not that simple...

I think you are misguided, are you saying Democratic don't own guns in America? If all gun owners or households that own guns voted for Romney, Obama would drop out of the race.

Where were all the heavily armed REPUBLICANS and NRA members ready to draw their guns at a moments notice during their shopping trip and instantly stop this rampage? Didn't work, did it? Oh well, another NRA FANTASY bites the dust.

Hmm, maybe thats because Wiaconsin did not allow conceal carry up until just a few months ago, so it is relatively new to the state..And the regulations are still some of the toughest in the nation, making it frustrating to go through the process of getting a ccw license..It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Just make it easy on yourself and stand up for your beliefs and declare that you are a racist. None of this silly willy nilly rigamarole finding absurd excuses like guns, or communism, or being a muslim or born in Kenya...all that just makes you look stupid and racist...instead, just look racist without looking stupid. At least you can get rid of one of those two negative perceptions of yourself.

I have a neirbo that has about 4 guns and he does not look mentally healthly. All my coworkers have a lot guns. What i have notice is that people that are very well educated are not buying a bunchs of guns. What I mean is that most of people that buy guns are in some ways mentally sick. I don't need a dumm gun in my life to be feel ok myself. The goverment need to control it right away befoe anything more inocet people die

I have a MBA and own a gun and I know several well educated gun owners. I hope I never ever have to use them to defend myself or my family. Think of it this way. Most of us buy fire insurance on our homes but in reality we are likely to never use it. I consider my guns as an insurance policy.I'd rather be prepared than be a helpless victim.

If we ever have a food/water shortage for more than a week or 2 you better hope that you have something to protect yourself. In desperate times, people will do about anything for food. I know that i wouldn't think twice if I was faced with a situation that I either had to kill to feed my daughter or watch her starve to death. That's why I also have 3 months of food\/water on hand.

Thats a funny concept Johnny T. Makes perfect sense. You got dozens and dozens of people in a mall, one madman starts shooting, so then everyone else pulls out their concealed guns to take down the threat....and..and guess what? Half of them didnt see the original shooter. They heard gunfire, turned around, and there you got dozens of people packing. Thats not dangerous, thats not confusing. What do you think happens next, when a guy a dozen feet away turns and see several people exchanging fire. Who the original culprit? No one knows, but now, theres a whole lot of bullets flying around.

I think in your world, Johnny T, the carnage created by confusion would far out do the damage the original shooter did.

It's true. There are exceptions, but a whole lot of people own guns simply because they are cowards. They carry them because they are afraid. They leave them around their home because they are afraid. Most, not all gun owners are basically cowards, waiting for some government take-over that's not going to come.

Most women that I know bring guns to the beauty salon/spa. I mean, if those stylists get to be armed with scissors, the least the customer can do is have a gun handy. Never know when a haircut could go awry.
