Four dead in Wisconsin salon shooting, including gunman

[Updated 6:10 p.m.] Suspected shooter Radcliffe Haughton has been found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Brookfield police Chief Daniel Tushaus said. He was found inside the salon where the shooting occurred.

[Updated 5:38 p.m.] Froedtert Hospital - the Milwaukee medical facility where four shooting victims are being treated - has "resumed normal operations" after earlier being placed in lockdown mode, the hospital said on its website.

"We are certain that our environment is safe," the hospital said in an update published at 4:25 p.m. CT.

[Updated 5:20 p.m.] President Barack Obama learned of the shooting around 12:30 p.m. CT from homeland security adviser John Brennan and then had a follow-up call an hour later involving, among others, FBI Director Bob Mueller, a White House statement said.

"The president was informed that the shooting did not appear to be terrorism-related," the statement said.

Earlier, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker offered '"our thoughts and prayers to the victims" and "the law enforcement and community support they need to heal in the coming days."

[Updated 4:56 p.m.] Authorities working to clear the building where Sunday's bloody shooting took place "believe we have identified what is being described as an improvised explosive device," Brookfield police Chief Daniel Tushaus said.

The device is "hampering our clearing of that building," the chief added.

[Updated 4:41 p.m.] Authorities "believe" three of the seven people shot Sunday have died, according to Tushaus.

The shooting took place around 11 a.m. CT (noon ET), the chief explained.

Authorities have been able to track down a 2003 Mazda Protege linked to the suspect - which was found outside the city of Brookfield - but the suspect remains at large. He's been identified as Radcliffe Haughton, who Tushaus said weighs 270 pounds and stands just over 6 feet tall.

[Updated 4:10 p.m.] Bomb squad personnel are at the scene of the shooting, Brookfield police Lt. John Beth said, pointing to concerns there may be explosives at the site.

[Updated 3:42 p.m.] ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern identifies the suspected shooter as Radcliffe Haughton, 45, of Brown Deer, Wisconsin. The shooting is being investigated as a possible domestic-related incident, according to Ahern. The suspect remains at large.

Radcliffe Haughton

[Updated 3:29 p.m.]ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern confirms to CNN that seven people were shot by a lone gunman at the Azana Hair Salon and Spa. "Employees said a man entered the salon, workers saw a firearm - a handgun of some sort," Ahern told CNN's Susan Candiotti. "An employee said to the gunman something like, 'If you're gonna rob the place, rob the place,' and then (the gunman) opened fire."

[Updated 2:24 p.m.] FBI and ATF agents are among the authorities at the scene, CNN affiliate WISN reports.

[Updated 2:07 p.m.] The nearby mall and some other buildings are on lockdown, CNN affiliates report.

[Updated 1:56 p.m.] CNN affiliate WTMJ reports authorities are looking for a suspect.

[Updated 1:54 p.m.] CNN affiliate WISN reports that a witness described seeing two women leaving the spa, apparently injured.  One crawled out and was taken by emergency responders.  The other was treated by emergency personnel in a squad car.

[Updated 1:32 p.m.] Hospital spokeswoman Nalissa Wienke tells CNN all four people in the emergency room appear to have non-critical injuries.  She could not say whether the injuries were due to gunshots.  At this time, the hospital does not believe it will need more staff, she said.

[Updated 1:28 p.m.] Numerous emergency vehicles are at a spa in Brookfield, Wisconsin, as local news agencies report a shooting took place.

Four people are in an emergency room, and another three are on their way, said Beth Strohbusch of Froedtert Hospital in nearby Milwaukee.

CNN affiliate WTMJ says the Waukesha Sheriff's Department confirmed there was a shooting, and that witnesses say it was either at or near the Azana Salon and Spa, which is across the road from Brookfield Square Mall.

CNN affiliate WISN called it a "mass shooting."

Liberals, by far, blame conservatives for these disasters. Yet, they refuse to accept fault if one of there own does this, or blame some outside reason for them doing this. Point being the left loves to blame the right in most cases, but the left is just as guilty, if not more often than they wish to accept. Who knows what this person was, right or left. You do know that MSNBC will immediately blame someone on the right even if a person on the left did this. Thank goodness it seems no one was too seriously hurt, at leas we all hope no one was hurt to bad.

People who live in glass houses...you know? I just heard about the gunman in Vancouver at the Fairmont Pacific Rim (where I will be staying in the next couple of weeks)...you all have some form of gun control I'm assuming based on your comments right? How's that working for you? You all suffer from the same societal ills so get off your holier-than-thou soap box and shut it!

Hey PER2006 yes we have some shootings but not mass shootings as you have on a regular basis. We do have gun control and it does not effect the hunters or anyone else who is a law abiding citizen. Assault Weapons are illegal and we are working effectively to get then off the streets. Assault weapons are only for killing and killing in masses. Check your facts and see how many murders we have in Canada per year and compared to the United States. The last shooting we had in the last couple of weeks was an American coming to the Canadian Border and shooting and injuring the Customs agent at the bridge and then shooting and killing himself. I guess that did not hit the news where you live. Most of the assault weapons coming in to our country come across from the States. Please keep them down there as you are so attached to them.

England has the same kind of idiot gun control as Canada does.

England began keeping crime data in 1898.

In 1898 England had a 1.0 murder rate per 100k people and no gun control.

In 2010 England had a 1.3 murder rate per 100k people and strict gun control.

Funny how their murder rate has always been low.

Funny how their implementing strict gun control didnt reduce the murder rate, much less their violent crime rate that in 1997 went from 820 per 100k people to 1,977 per 100k people in 2010.

Funny how that is exactly the same scenario and result as in Canda and any other strict gun control country and the world, and your own govt. crime databases prove it.

Your murder rate has always been low.

Yet people using the anti gun extremists idiots guide in abuse of statistics guide 101 use a one point data source as if it is a true representation when it is nothing more than a bold faced lie.

      Get a clue.

Obviously the system failed. The person that did this probably had serious psychological issues. And yes, shouldn't even have a BB gun.
Many years ago people that had "issues" like this were reported and prevented from own any kind of weapon through programs that are probably non-exsistent now.

Tragedy, but the fact that some morons still try to put the NRA on blast is ridiculous. There are shootings every single hour, the media just puts the biggest ones up and blows them out of proportion. This is how life works, and how its worked for millions of years. People and animals kill each other, our morals are different, but it is the basis of life. Get over yourself. Even if you could have guns banned, do you think that is going to get rid of murders? Half of these killings are committed with stolen guns. Also, these people have literally nothing to lose, so obviously you telling them that they can't have guns will do nothing, they will find a way to get them.

I think the lack of gun regulation is responsible for many of these shootings, including the small ones you mention.

"There are shootings every single hour, the media just puts the biggest ones up and blows them out of proportion. "

So 7 people shot isn't news in your world?

"This is how life works, and how its worked for millions of years. "

We've had mass shootings for millions of years?

"People and animals kill each other, our morals are different, but it is the basis of life."

So we shouldn't have laws or be concerned when the laws are broken?

"Even if you could have guns banned, do you think that is going to get rid of murders? "

Strawman argument. Speed limits don't "get rid of speeding" but we need them anyway.

"Half of these killings are committed with stolen guns. "

      So the other half are...?

"Also, these people have literally nothing to lose, so obviously you telling them that they can't have guns will do nothing, they will find a way to get them."

Lol it amuses me how insane half of you are. Get a grip and accept reality. People die every day. This is a complete tragedy and I am sorry for any families that lost loved ones in this, and any other incident. However, all I am stating is that it doesn't surprise me and it shouldn't surprise anyone. Our morals teach us that killing innocent people is wrong, and killing in general for that matter, and it is. However, to go around believing that it will not happen if you "Ban guns" is ridiculous.

As for the comment about my statement saying that this has been happening for years. yes it has, and before guns it was swords, and before swords it was stones, and before stones it was bare hands. there have been plenty of mass killings (if you count 7 as mass) since the dawn of man.

No, it's not just common sense. Where do you think the guns people buy illegally come from? They're not manufactured illegally. They make their way to the black market afterwords. I have known many of the so-called good gun owners who had their houses broken into and many guns stolen. Now you can bet that all of those guns are being used for criminal purposes. So common sense tells me that the more guns there are period, the more guns there will be on the black market. You are suggesting that common sense tells us to get involved in an arms race with criminals. That cannot be the answer.
