Four dead in Wisconsin salon shooting, including gunman

[Updated 6:10 p.m.] Suspected shooter Radcliffe Haughton has been found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Brookfield police Chief Daniel Tushaus said. He was found inside the salon where the shooting occurred.

[Updated 5:38 p.m.] Froedtert Hospital - the Milwaukee medical facility where four shooting victims are being treated - has "resumed normal operations" after earlier being placed in lockdown mode, the hospital said on its website.

"We are certain that our environment is safe," the hospital said in an update published at 4:25 p.m. CT.

[Updated 5:20 p.m.] President Barack Obama learned of the shooting around 12:30 p.m. CT from homeland security adviser John Brennan and then had a follow-up call an hour later involving, among others, FBI Director Bob Mueller, a White House statement said.

"The president was informed that the shooting did not appear to be terrorism-related," the statement said.

Earlier, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker offered '"our thoughts and prayers to the victims" and "the law enforcement and community support they need to heal in the coming days."

[Updated 4:56 p.m.] Authorities working to clear the building where Sunday's bloody shooting took place "believe we have identified what is being described as an improvised explosive device," Brookfield police Chief Daniel Tushaus said.

The device is "hampering our clearing of that building," the chief added.

[Updated 4:41 p.m.] Authorities "believe" three of the seven people shot Sunday have died, according to Tushaus.

The shooting took place around 11 a.m. CT (noon ET), the chief explained.

Authorities have been able to track down a 2003 Mazda Protege linked to the suspect - which was found outside the city of Brookfield - but the suspect remains at large. He's been identified as Radcliffe Haughton, who Tushaus said weighs 270 pounds and stands just over 6 feet tall.

[Updated 4:10 p.m.] Bomb squad personnel are at the scene of the shooting, Brookfield police Lt. John Beth said, pointing to concerns there may be explosives at the site.

[Updated 3:42 p.m.] ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern identifies the suspected shooter as Radcliffe Haughton, 45, of Brown Deer, Wisconsin. The shooting is being investigated as a possible domestic-related incident, according to Ahern. The suspect remains at large.

[Updated 3:29 p.m.]ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern confirms to CNN that seven people were shot by a lone gunman at the Azana Hair Salon and Spa. "Employees said a man entered the salon, workers saw a firearm - a handgun of some sort," Ahern told CNN's Susan Candiotti. "An employee said to the gunman something like, 'If you're gonna rob the place, rob the place,' and then (the gunman) opened fire."

[Updated 2:24 p.m.] FBI and ATF agents are among the authorities at the scene, CNN affiliate WISN reports.

[Updated 2:07 p.m.] The nearby mall and some other buildings are on lockdown, CNN affiliates report.

[Updated 1:56 p.m.] CNN affiliate WTMJ reports authorities are looking for a suspect.

[Updated 1:54 p.m.] CNN affiliate WISN reports that a witness described seeing two women leaving the spa, apparently injured.  One crawled out and was taken by emergency responders.  The other was treated by emergency personnel in a squad car.

[Updated 1:32 p.m.] Hospital spokeswoman Nalissa Wienke tells CNN all four people in the emergency room appear to have non-critical injuries.  She could not say whether the injuries were due to gunshots.  At this time, the hospital does not believe it will need more staff, she said.

[Updated 1:28 p.m.] Numerous emergency vehicles are at a spa in Brookfield, Wisconsin, as local news agencies report a shooting took place.

Four people are in an emergency room, and another three are on their way, said Beth Strohbusch of Froedtert Hospital in nearby Milwaukee.

CNN affiliate WTMJ says the Waukesha Sheriff's Department confirmed there was a shooting, and that witnesses say it was either at or near the Azana Salon and Spa, which is across the road from Brookfield Square Mall.

CNN affiliate WISN called it a "mass shooting."

Gotta hand it to you Nina – you have conspiracy theory going before the election. I guess that I don't need to vote after all! Perhaps I still need to in order to overcome the votes that will be found in the trunks of cars that just happen to put Obama over the top!

So wait we don't even know if it is a shooting according to this report, or even who might or might not have been involved. But it is a mass shooting! WTH?
UK has almost twice the violent crime rate as anywhere else in the world. But you know getting blown up with a grenade, or stabbed with scissors is so much more humane.
I am more interested in knowing why, and who. Also was the mall a victim rich zone or do they allow CCW there?

Personally I would take the right to armed defense any day over being a victim in Canada. Sorry..
Shootings happen, even in Canada. I choose to carry a gun because a police officer weighs to much!

Yes we have some shootings but not in the magnitude you have in the States. We are working very hard to get these guns and assault weapon used by gangs off the street. Most of these weapons are coming from the United States. We are not victims in Canada we are free and we do not have to be neurotic about having to arm ourselves in order to feel safe.

Antidepressant drugs deserve more blame than guns in most of these type of shootings.

amazing..how many more people need to die before we realize that banning personal firearms is the right thing to do. As long as there is a law that permits this, tragic incidents like this will continue...

Maybe if the victims had their permit to carry and a gun, they could've protected themselves and the number of those injured or fatalities would be less...

Well, let me state that I am definitely against guns, but this goes much deeper than just banning guns. Disgruntled, destabilized people will find ways to kill, and hurt people if they can.... We have to look at the bigger picture. Working too much. Consuming too much (including eating crappy processed food that is poison for our bodies). And when we can't grasp the depression that is a result of the current complexities that we have created - we pump up the depressed with anti-depressants! Progress comes with a price! Its time for us, as a collective, to hit the pause button, and really ask ourselves if what is really necessary to live healthy, happy lives....

      Not going to happen.

100 million gun owners in the US.

Two US Supreme Court decisions stating that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to own guns.

Majorities in both the House and Senate that support the right to own guns.

So take your gun-ban fantasies back under your rock. Begone.

Between 1900 and 1999 an estimated 190-260 million people have been murdered.....By their own governments
You say give up our right to personal defence and let the government protect us, but as history has shown that the ones doing most of the killings is the governments...
It was governments that built the concentration camps, that ordered mass killings, genocides, ect.

Those of you who want to take away our guns need to take the intellectual approach and really research what happens to the crime rates where firearms are banned. Ignoring the FACTS wont make you safer from criminals who DO NOT OBEY the law

Fact: The US already has the most guns per person of any country, 50% more than the next country, Serbia.
Fact: The US has the 10th highest rate of gun-related death rate in the world.
Fact: This rate is 12 times higher than any other industrialized country.
Fact: A gun in the home raises the chance of gun-related homicide by 3 times, suicide by 5 times.
The facts are against the NRA.

Yeah, I wouldn't get all that excited by those "statistics" if I were you, you're not comparing like with like
    a) Population density is different – there are loads of populations in the US living in the middle of nowhere
    b) America has American beer – so many fewer drunk people getting into fights, and lets face it, if you did get drunk on it you'd be too depressed to fight anyone.
    c) No football violence, American football lulls everyone into a sleepy state because it's a boring slow sport.
    d) Too many people too full of burgers to rouse themselves out of their reclining chairs from in front of the tv,

Personally I'd rather take the risk of not getting shot.

I suppose we should instead be:
      a) shooting women for wanting equality.
      b) worshiping cows rather than eating them.
      c) pummeling each other – and the players – over a pansy game of flop-and-kick.

Get off the forums and back to answering customer service calls, nitwit.

It is about race if you look at the statistics regarding crime vs racial population. It's a real eye-opener even for those whose who defend our minorities conduct as somehow being related to slavery, lack of opportunity, drugs and so on and on and on. Put the blame where it belongs, on the individual. Perhaps that is a difficult concept for bleeding heart liberals and pandering politicians.

    Sure thing sock puppet.

Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jodi Becker is on scene. She reports that authorities are searching for a 6'1", 270 lb. African-American with a bald head and brown eyes.

He was reportedly driving a black 2003 Mazda. Authorities believe he may be from Brown Deer.
