Four dead in Wisconsin salon shooting, including gunman

[Updated 6:10 p.m.] Suspected shooter Radcliffe Haughton has been found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Brookfield police Chief Daniel Tushaus said. He was found inside the salon where the shooting occurred.

[Updated 5:38 p.m.] Froedtert Hospital - the Milwaukee medical facility where four shooting victims are being treated - has "resumed normal operations" after earlier being placed in lockdown mode, the hospital said on its website.

"We are certain that our environment is safe," the hospital said in an update published at 4:25 p.m. CT.

[Updated 5:20 p.m.] President Barack Obama learned of the shooting around 12:30 p.m. CT from homeland security adviser John Brennan and then had a follow-up call an hour later involving, among others, FBI Director Bob Mueller, a White House statement said.

"The president was informed that the shooting did not appear to be terrorism-related," the statement said.

Earlier, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker offered '"our thoughts and prayers to the victims" and "the law enforcement and community support they need to heal in the coming days."

[Updated 4:56 p.m.] Authorities working to clear the building where Sunday's bloody shooting took place "believe we have identified what is being described as an improvised explosive device," Brookfield police Chief Daniel Tushaus said.

The device is "hampering our clearing of that building," the chief added.

[Updated 4:41 p.m.] Authorities "believe" three of the seven people shot Sunday have died, according to Tushaus.

The shooting took place around 11 a.m. CT (noon ET), the chief explained.

Authorities have been able to track down a 2003 Mazda Protege linked to the suspect - which was found outside the city of Brookfield - but the suspect remains at large. He's been identified as Radcliffe Haughton, who Tushaus said weighs 270 pounds and stands just over 6 feet tall.

[Updated 4:10 p.m.] Bomb squad personnel are at the scene of the shooting, Brookfield police Lt. John Beth said, pointing to concerns there may be explosives at the site.

[Updated 3:42 p.m.] ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern identifies the suspected shooter as Radcliffe Haughton, 45, of Brown Deer, Wisconsin. The shooting is being investigated as a possible domestic-related incident, according to Ahern. The suspect remains at large.

Radcliffe Haughton

[Updated 3:29 p.m.]ATF spokesman Thomas Ahern confirms to CNN that seven people were shot by a lone gunman at the Azana Hair Salon and Spa. "Employees said a man entered the salon, workers saw a firearm - a handgun of some sort," Ahern told CNN's Susan Candiotti. "An employee said to the gunman something like, 'If you're gonna rob the place, rob the place,' and then (the gunman) opened fire."

[Updated 2:24 p.m.] FBI and ATF agents are among the authorities at the scene, CNN affiliate WISN reports.

[Updated 2:07 p.m.] The nearby mall and some other buildings are on lockdown, CNN affiliates report.

[Updated 1:56 p.m.] CNN affiliate WTMJ reports authorities are looking for a suspect.

[Updated 1:54 p.m.] CNN affiliate WISN reports that a witness described seeing two women leaving the spa, apparently injured.  One crawled out and was taken by emergency responders.  The other was treated by emergency personnel in a squad car.

[Updated 1:32 p.m.] Hospital spokeswoman Nalissa Wienke tells CNN all four people in the emergency room appear to have non-critical injuries.  She could not say whether the injuries were due to gunshots.  At this time, the hospital does not believe it will need more staff, she said.

[Updated 1:28 p.m.] Numerous emergency vehicles are at a spa in Brookfield, Wisconsin, as local news agencies report a shooting took place.

Four people are in an emergency room, and another three are on their way, said Beth Strohbusch of Froedtert Hospital in nearby Milwaukee.

CNN affiliate WTMJ says the Waukesha Sheriff's Department confirmed there was a shooting, and that witnesses say it was either at or near the Azana Salon and Spa, which is across the road from Brookfield Square Mall.

CNN affiliate WISN called it a "mass shooting."

It's not a gun issue. It's a culture issue. We need to clean it up.

I want to see how liberals who ban guns control crime. Oh wait there already is a history of liberal controlled places with strict gun laws. guess what those places have more shooting then non liberal places.

You completely made up that fact! Google the stats. European coutnries are far more liberal than the USA. They have a fraction of our gun violence. It's not like we have 10 or 20% more gun violence and violent crime in general, we have over 1000% percent more. Be careful, it's because of an uninformed citzenship here the US, that we have poor laws governing our country

Those European gun control laws protected Nazis and Soviet Communists from being shot by the people they were rounding up for the death camps and the gulag.

      What a triumph of liberalism.

You mean like England, where their violent crime rate in 1997 (year of their gun ban) was 820 per 100k people and went up to 1,977 per 100k in 2010, their murder rates didnt go down either, such a consistent trend in gun ban countries.

Plus anyone who believes an inanimate object is the root cause of violence hears said inanimate object use it voice to command a person in close proximity and commit a violent act. Lucjily for the public safety, the vasy majority of those who hear voices and must obey, those loveable, violent, schizophrenics are locked up

All while our violent crime rate in the US in 1997 went from 611 per 100k people to 403 per 100k people in 2010, a 38% drop, 26% reduction in murders, etc, etc, etc, etc...

But hey, since the US govt acknowledges that over 92% of deaths by illegal use of a firearm are committed by career criminals, gang members, and suiciders (a felony crime) where do you get the information to infer the law abiding gun owners are responsible for all those deaths eh einstein?

More people have died this year from TEXTING while driving then guns, yet you dont need a license to own a cell phone. Maybe your bad driving makes me wanna get a gun. Ever think of that. Yeah, since the BATF refused to prsecute more than 1% of the 1.83 mil frlons and others rejected caught attempting to buy a firearm from a licnesed source since 1994, much less the 95% of felons who dont even attempt to buy from a licnesed source to negin with, much less catch ANy of those 100% using a fake identification to pass the background check, much less allow civilians access to the NICS system.

Always ignoring the fact your politicians do not fund or resource the mental health reporting function to the NICS, Otherwise they would have more than 1.7 mil records of mentally ill who have lost their 2A rights by due process, rather than the 23.15 mil severely mentally ill the mental health experts identify in the US adult and prison population.

Yeah, sucks how the govt responsible for controlling firearm sales and such, sucks so badly at doing so.

Violent crimes have increased ironically since Wisconsin made conceal-carry legal. This is the second mass shooting in months and the third in Wisconsin alone in the past decade. WHAT are you airheads going to understand. Of course guns don't kill people–people do but when you make more guns available–people that go off the handle have easier access to guns! We need to have more common sense on gun laws. THEY ARE DANGEROUS. Even the most experienced suddenly use them to commit crimes. Guns need to be restricted for REAL PURPOSE like HUNTING and Law Enforcement. People have taken "The Right to Bear Arms" statement too literally and in ignorance.

Can you imagine that you go to a mall or on the street and someone has a gun and uses it and everyone else carrying a concealed weapon pulls it out and they start shooting. Mass murders. People who are neurotic and paranoid now would not want to leave their home at all. Scary. The issue is more about assault weapons and their control they do the most damage. The United States might as well start living in the Billy the Kid days. Society has move on from outdated laws and rights.

Gotta love how all of these ignorant gun-banners are unable to grasp how simple it is to construct a firebomb.

The largest mass-murder in US history, prior to the Oklahoma City bombing, was committed with a gallon of unleaded gasoline and a pack of matches. 87 dead and dozens more terribly injured. By one man with just a bottle of gas and a match.

Well, at least they weren't victims of "gun violence." No wonder the gun-ban lobby ignores their deaths.
