Relative shoots costumed girl after mistaking her for a skunk
A little girl was fighting for her life early Monday after she was shot outside a Halloween party by a relative who mistook her costume for a skunk.
Police in western Pennsylvania's New Sewickley Township said the 9-year-old girl was dressed in black with a black hat for the Saturday evening party.
As the two to three dozen guests milled about, the girl went to hide on the edge of a hill.
It was past 8 p.m. and the sun had long set. A relative spotted the dark figure in the distance, mistook it for a skunk and fired his shotgun, said Officer Greg Carney with the township police.
The girl was hit in the neck, back and arm - and flown to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, about 30 miles away. There, she remained in the intensive care unit, Carney said.
Police will determine later Monday whether they will charge the shooter, whom they did not name. Nor did they say how he was related to the girl.
They did add, however, that the man had not been drinking.

None of you clowns live in the country. Skunks tear up land, ruin crops, and are known to cause quite a bit of damage. They are a nuisance for farmers and homeowners alike.
With that said I am not defending the guy with the shotgun. He made a big mistake and will pay for it one way or another.
In no way shape or form should this story start debates on gun control or gun policies.
We already have laws that say its illegal to shoot people....guess what....they didn't work in this case.

Anyone can take a concealed weapon class but the authorities, i.e. chiefs of police, etc, will make the final decision as to whether or not a permit will be issued.

This is a new market for the NRA!! Since they want everyone to be armed and I know some people that are definitely not as smart as this one skunk that has learned to take the lids off my trashcans and then put them back (almost), maybe they should sell guns to skunks? The shooter wasn't drunk. Were his pupils the size of nickels after several days of tweeking when he saw that 4 foot tall skunk?
