Relative shoots costumed girl after mistaking her for a skunk
A little girl was fighting for her life early Monday after she was shot outside a Halloween party by a relative who mistook her costume for a skunk.
Police in western Pennsylvania's New Sewickley Township said the 9-year-old girl was dressed in black with a black hat for the Saturday evening party.
As the two to three dozen guests milled about, the girl went to hide on the edge of a hill.
It was past 8 p.m. and the sun had long set. A relative spotted the dark figure in the distance, mistook it for a skunk and fired his shotgun, said Officer Greg Carney with the township police.
The girl was hit in the neck, back and arm - and flown to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, about 30 miles away. There, she remained in the intensive care unit, Carney said.
Police will determine later Monday whether they will charge the shooter, whom they did not name. Nor did they say how he was related to the girl.
They did add, however, that the man had not been drinking.

1st rule of firearm – never shoot at anything unless it is clearly identified and unobstructed – the 2nd amendment is for people intelligent enough to make it worthwhile – no different than the nitwits i see every day texting while they drive. what is missing is more stringent requirements that will deny access to idiots – whatever the missile.
I come from India and I find it so annoying when I hear about a husband shooting his wife with an AK47, or a teenager shooting kids in his class and then a little girl being shot by a moron. In India, nobody keeps guns...and growing up in India, I have never heard in my life of shootings like these which boil my blood. Why do Americans want to keep guns in their homes...????

Sunday I read that 100,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA this year. Are gun owners and the NRA so cold hearted to not care about all the innocent people being killed in our country so senselessly?

How many innocent people have to die before Americans realize that the 2nd amendment needs to change! Humans in general are driven by emotions and it is NOT safe for the average person living next door or walking on the street to be carrying a gun! this is just common sense! We are ALL safer with less or no guns in the streets or in our homes! Only cowards seem to want guns to 'protect themselves'
