Relative shoots costumed girl after mistaking her for a skunk
A little girl was fighting for her life early Monday after she was shot outside a Halloween party by a relative who mistook her costume for a skunk.
Police in western Pennsylvania's New Sewickley Township said the 9-year-old girl was dressed in black with a black hat for the Saturday evening party.
As the two to three dozen guests milled about, the girl went to hide on the edge of a hill.
It was past 8 p.m. and the sun had long set. A relative spotted the dark figure in the distance, mistook it for a skunk and fired his shotgun, said Officer Greg Carney with the township police.
The girl was hit in the neck, back and arm - and flown to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, about 30 miles away. There, she remained in the intensive care unit, Carney said.
Police will determine later Monday whether they will charge the shooter, whom they did not name. Nor did they say how he was related to the girl.
They did add, however, that the man had not been drinking.
Wow, if only she had been carrying a handgun she could have defended herself.......smh.

Hey! He was just defending the homeland. That skunk after all was more than half black. That's a worthy moving target that's potentially armed and dangerous.

How tragic that a man with a shotgun didn't follow a cardinal rule of hunting to verify what you are shooting at first.
It's sounds like the family wanted to do her in from the beginning. I mean really. Who in their right mind wouldn't warn a child before hand that dressing like a skunk in redneckville was a very bad idea.
What an idiot! We can only hope that the moron felt so bad that he committed suicide so he doesn't harm anyone else in his family.

I can see someone mistaking Romney for a skunk, but not a little girl. The man will be charged with negligent use of a firearm at a minimum.

ScepticStill, unfortunately, nearly half of Americans are idiots, judging by the fact they would consider trash like Palin as VP or KKK man Romney as President. So make that 150,000,000 armed idiots roaming the streets; and make no mistake, it's these people that are the most likely to own guns and go hunting and shooting small harmless living things in the first place!
VedX, I guess they hunt and shoot harmless small animals because its safer than tracking and shooting dangerous large animals
