Magnitude-2.0 quake shakes New Jersey

As if they haven't had enough headaches in New Jersey in the past week, this morning they can add earthquake to the list.

The magnitude-2.0 temblor struck at 1:19 a.m. and was centered two miles south-southeast of Ringwood, New Jersey, not far from the border with New York. The depth was 3.1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The agency logged 11 responses from people who said they felt the quake across seven zip codes in New York and New Jersey. Quakes in the eastern U.S. - even small ones like this - are typically felt over a larger area than quakes in the western part of the country, the USGS says. Quakes occur less frequently in the eastern U.S. than in the West.

No damage was reported from Monday's quake.

The largest quake ever recorded in New Jersey was a magnitude-5.3 temblor in 1783, according to the USGS.

A 2.0 is more like a 3.5 in Cal. They have bedrock with magnifies it, while here on the west coast we have sand and junk rock. I'd hate to be on the east coast when a 5.3 hit. Nasty.

2.0?? Come on! A truck driving on a bumpy road makes a 2.0 quake. This is the media inventing drama to attract readers!

I have never commented on a story before, but this is the least news worthy thing I have ever seen in my life. according to the USGS 1.3 millon earthquakes in the 2-2.9 range occur every year. 11 people report feeling the earthquake, that is not exactly shaking anything. maybe it made some ripples appear in a cup of coffee? seriously, there is no reason to report a 2.0 magnitude earthquake.

Your kidding me, right? How is this news? We have hundreds of quakes like this in California everyday.

These guys don't, and they were just hit by a devastating hurricane. That's why this is news. Things are still wonky for them.

Around the world there are literally thousands of earthquakes each day measuring this magnitude. Most people couldn't even have felt it if they had been forewarned, a heavy truck rolling down the street could have produced a bigger earthquake. Yes, this is indeed a strong candidate for biggest nonstory in a long disgraceful history of CNN nonstories. Everyone on this message board is now dumber for having read it. May god have mercy on our souls!!!

Maybe this was reported because, the last thing these people need to have happen, is absolutely nothing when it comes to Mother Nature.
