The first presidential election results are in - and it's a tie.
President Barack Obama and his Republican rival, Mitt Romney, each received five votes in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.
The town in the state's northeast corner has opened its polls shortly after midnight each election day since 1960 - but today's tie was the first in its history.
Explainer: What if there's a national tie?
The result was unexpected, said town clerk Dick Erwin. The town has two registered Democrats, three Republicans and five independents.
"Considering the way things are polling around the country, we may have been the first tie of the day," said town clerk Dick Erwin, noting the national polls showing a virtual dead heat in the race. "Keep your eyes on the news reports, because it's going to be a wild ride."
The town, home to about a dozen residents, has drawn national media attention for being the first place in the country to make its presidential preferences known.
Unlike some parts of the country, election officials never have to worry about lack of interest. Â Dixville Notch has had 100% voter turnout since it started its first-in-the-nation voting tradition.
Under New Hampshire voting law, a poling place can be closed once all registered voters have officially cast their ballots. Â With all 10 registered voters on hand, the community had its tally shortly after midnight.
However, since 1996, another small New Hampshire town - Hart's Location - reinstated its practice from the 1940s and also began opening its polls at midnight.
The result there? Obama 23; Romney 9
The result in Dixville Notch is hardly a reliable bellwether for the eventual winner of the White House - or even the result statewide.
Although the community typically leans Republican, residents went for Obama in 2008 - the first time the majority of folks in Dixville Notch went for a Democrat in 40 years.

PLEASE let this be over SOON! This has been going on too long, and my phone was dead from the hurricane for a week. When I got home yesterday, my answering machine had 22 POLITICAL MESSAGES!!!!!! My phone rings a lot normally, but it is off the HOOK now! Can't wait for my phone to quiet down. Nine hours and counting...........oh......Romney 2012!
Well obviously this can only point to a major victory by Obama.
I'm still curious as to what exactly Obama meant when he told Putin that he'd have, "more flexibility" after this election. What's he planning to do once he no longer has to worry about American voters?
wait and see when he is reelected. obama 2012
doesn't take much to confuse you, eh? Well, here's what you do, you look up "more" and "flexibility" in the dictionary. You can probably do it online, with a tutorial.
"but today's tie was the first in its history" – a five-five tie is not amazing.
They all call me sistah tru, cuz I used to mop up da spooo! I then gave up da dudes cuz they was lame, I went for da chiks cuz they had game!! I became a lezzy and now I luv them butch types....I pound their poooopers and make sure they ripe!!!! Yeah, boyeeee!
The Democrat voting fraud machine is alive and well. But you won't hear about that on this website. Cover up masters.
UNIONS UNDER FIRE:

Unions in Nevada accused of registering illegal immigrants and then pressuring them to vote
Oregon Elections Worker Fired After Allegations of Ballot Tampering

Oh look everyone, the Republican base.
Honestly you cannot expect to fix 8 years of debt and wars in 4. If there is anything the President is guilty of it would be trying to work with the republicans currently in office right now. Obama should have done the health care bill when the democrats had the majority in the house but was trying to work with those hateful republicans. I am not saying Romney is a bad person but I do know that if you vote for him you either make $100,000 plus a year, love to deploy cause you are military and wanna make money in the desert, blind to facts or just plan racist...OBAMA 2012
What a crock lol. I'm not military, don't make 100k a year, am not racist, or stupid. And I didn't vote for Obama. It has nothing to do with house Republicans, and everything to do with his failed policies.
Well for starters he could veto bills with earmarks like he implied he would in his debate with McCain. Then he could have not extended the Bush tax cuts.
@lloyd, yeah, he could have done that, and thanks to the GOP the same stroke of the pen would have cut off unemployment benefits to millions of out of work families, killed student loans, etc. Those where the GOP contributions, the things that they insisted on including along with denying poor women health screening and a host of other user unfriendly items. For every good thing that the President has tried to do the GOP has insisted on a lot of pain for middle class and below and added perks for the wealthy.
Aren't you witty
Obama will WIN today, and Mittens will be history.
I just learned that the pollsters are not reporting the raw data. The raw data has Romney winning Ohio, Florida, abnd Virginia comfortably but the pollsters make "adjustments" to weight for anticipated turnout based on '08 rates. Most experts agree that turnout, especially in Black community, will not be at '08 rates, and so they used an average based on '04, '06, '08, and '10 data. Based on this model, Romney is expected to win the popular vote by 9 points and garner over 300 electoral college votes.
@Ben, let me guess where you "just learned" that. You should have stayed there at the alternate reality news source. The end result will still be the same but at least they will arm you with all of the excuses that you will need for the next 4 years.
I rest my case
yo momma
VOTE INTIMIDATION IN PHILLY?
Booted GOP officials ordered seated,
Black Panthers back at '08 polling site
I know that most of you that visit this site don't want to hear what is actually happening so you prefer the filtered and censured version of the news, but I believe you all need to be aware that this happens every election cycle. It always seems to be the democrat side.

LOL good luck with that dream.
>win the popular vote by 9 points
Well considering blacks make up like %11 of the population your bs only makes sense if they decided every black will vote which of course they didn't. Nobody will win the popular vote by more than %2.
I mean everyone has dreams, but this one is a little out there.
You must be watching Republican poll! I guess.. Wake up Ben!
You obviously learned nothing in English class when you use "weight" instead of "wait". Do you work directly for Fox News?
"most experts agree" , hey, thanks for that little chuckle!
Pretty funny stuff there ben. You flacking for the GOP or for Fox Noise?
250 Million American's couldn't find someone other than a British to comment about American election ???? What’s wrong with this picture.
