You may recall the old Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons in which Wile E. Coyote was pursuing the Road Runner. Those ACME products never seemed to do the trick for the poor coyote, who would end up bounding off exaggerated red-rock cliffs and hanging in mid-air. Cartoon physics would eventually bring him down, but he would always survive.
Compare that to the fiscal cliff looming over the U.S. government right after the 2012 presidential election. Congress faces an end-of-the-year deadline to address spending cuts, Bush-era tax cuts, other tax breaks and the so-called process of sequestration. Automatic across-the-board spending cuts could trigger at the beginning of 2013 if Capitol Hill fails to create a deficit-reduction plan.
CNN's story drew nearly 8,000 comments from readers. Sleestak Lightning's colorful cartoon reference asks an interesting question: "Which party is the roadrunner and which is the coyote?"
Do you agree with the Looney Tunes comparison? What do you think needs to be done? How much does the fiscal cliff concern you? Share your thoughts in the comments area below or post a video on CNN iReport.
I liked the one where the Roadrunner turned around to beep at him and the Coyote jumped on his back. He rode him into the pavement and sunk his teeth into his neck. The Roadrunner held up a sign saying "WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?" Or maybe that wasn't a real episode, maybe I just dreamed it. Also, I agree with the tea party on almost nothing, but they are right about this. You can't keep spending trillions of dollars that you don't have.
War is heck, bombo. Can't keep putting that ole war on a Chinese credit card.
Back to normal in Washington, Fiscal Cliff looming.... and Obama off to Asia... nothing has changed, has it.
Congratulations to CNN. You managed to pull a win for your candidate. Way to go!
Beep bEEp !!!
I would like to thank ACME's subsidiary CNN. For presenting this forum where we can discss the pros and cons of cliff falling.
Let's not forget faux tunnel paintings. 😉
I will admit that every time I see the words 'fiscal cliff', the Coyote and the Roadrunner cartoons do pop into my mind...
So Obama wants the rich to pay thier fair share huh? The POTUS makes $400,000 , / year (for life needless to say) + another what? $72,000 / month on side investments? Hmmm? So. He says he wants to lead by example. Good. So, when the Bush tax cuts expire, Obama is going to be pretty much in the position to "screw himself and his family". Am I not thinking this out right?
Obama can PAY OUT 50% in his own personal taxes to make himself an equal to Bill Gates. YEAH!!! 🙂
Things will be ok. Plus they will get better. Might as well think positive.
Benn: I've heard other republicans say...there is a reason G-d allowed the election to turn out the way it did. And the Lord wants us to understand in the next few months and years, why we lost. Like you said..think positive!
I saw this woman today, pulling the last of the Romney/Ryan 2012 signs from the ground. I could see the hurt on her face, and I realized, the election is over and we lost, but also realized, this political separation is far from over.
It is good that today the gods no longer interfere in the affairs of mortal man,or else we would not need any damn.... government at all.
Unless the gods are either crazy, self centered and avaritios sob's and then we would not need them; we already have that and we chose them.
SIMPLE ANSWER!!! Put ALL of these so called meetings on national TV! Then WE, the people, can see exactly where the non-comprimisers are and vote them out! IF you are not truly interested in solving OUR problems, then you need to GET OUT!!
Never compromise beliefs. Compromise where it is feasable for all..
