6.8-magnitude quake hits Myanmar

[Updated 5:00 a.m.] At least 13 people have died and 40 more injured, according the charity Save the Children, which operates inside Myanmar.

[Updated 3:45 a.m.]  At least four people died and 25 were injured, according to Myanmar’s Weather Report Department.

[Updated 1:55 a.m.] The U.S. Geological Survey has revised to 6.8 the magnitude of an earthquake that struck north-central Myanmar this morning. The agency previously said it was a magnitude 6.6.

[Updated 11:15 p.m.]  The epicenter was near the town of Shwebo in the Sagaing region, and local journalists have reported no casualties there from the quake that struck at 7:40 a.m. local time (8:10 p.m. ET).

A bridge under construction was destroyed near the small town, they said.  The seismic jolt put cracks in buildings in the country's second largest city of Mandalay and knocked down some pagodas there but caused no major damage or injury, local journalists said.

Shopping districts are temporarily closed, and the authorities are inspecting buildings for damage, they said.

[Posted 20:33 p.m.] A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck north-central Myanmar early Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was reported to be only 6.2 miles deep. The agency originally reported the magnitude to be 7.0 but revised that number downward.

Two 5.0-magnitude aftershocks were reported.

No tsunami warnings were issued, due to the quake's inland location.

In March 2011, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake near Myanmar's borders with China, Thailand and Laos killed at least 75 people. At least 111 people were injured, Myanmar Radio reported.

Daily life is hard for those living in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. A country that was one of the richest in Asia 50 years ago is now one of the poorest.

What is a racists? Who told you, that you were colored. See the red in them. A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; *Luke12:56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? (*Isaiah 47:13*) *Ezekiel 12:11 Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done unto them: they shall remove and go into captivity. *Matthew 18:35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
