Israel strikes rocket sites after Hamas 'escalation'
[Update 12:44 p.m.] The Israeli military says more than 85 rockets from Gaza have hit Israel since yesterday. "In the past two days, Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip have dramatically escalated their attacks against Israel — firing an anti-tank missile at an IDF jeep as well as launching barrages of rockets at Israeli civilians," the Israel Defense Forces says.
The Palestinian official news agency WAFA posted this photo, saying it was taken in Gaza today after an Israeli strike. WAFA did not give an exact location. Israel has said it targeted a rocket-launching squad in Gaza.

IDF spokeswoman Avital Leibovich said four Israeli civilians have been wounded by rockets, according to initial reports. Four Israeli soldiers were wounded yesterday, according to the military.

"The world must understand that Israel will not sit idly against attempts to harm us. We are ready to intensify the reaction,” Netanyahu said.
Israeli forces are already striking at terror groups in Gaza behind the attacks, he said.
Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum warned against escalating the violence and targeting civilians, saying "we cannot sit idle towards it. An end should be put to it."
Four Israeli soldiers were wounded and five Palestinians, including a militant, were killed yesterday, as the two sides traded fire.

As long as the Palestinians in Gaza and elsewhere are willing the war to continue it means that they are happy with its results (including the blockade, Israeli military actions against the terrorists and everything else Palestinians love to complain about). This means that to end the war and make peace possible Israel MUST make the Palestinians UNHAPPY with the war so they'll start demanding their leaders to seek peace. If and when the Palestinians will produce leadership ABLE AND WILLING to stop violence, recognize Israel and negotiate a peace agreement Israel will gladly agree.

I have met quite a few ( way more than just a few) palestinians who want nothing more than peace in their country. Why and by what purpose would firing rockets into Israel do anything to benefit them? The story doesn't make sense. Please don't forget that the Palestinians are Jewish, Christian and Muslims just like Israelis are (funny how they get along..because they do). The problem is that Israel is instigating a great deal of these problems by cutting off supplies and pushing around it's settlers in the west bank. I really wish some of you would go and see Israel for what it is. It acts like a bully in the region and gets an equally hostile response back. If my kids and I were starving and lacking basic supplies for medicine because of a government blockade, I too might resort to violence. This is not an Islam vs Judaism fight, this is an fight of the right to live without oppression.
I would agree with what you're saying CJ, but if you look at the history of the conflict you would know that there have been a few instances to make peace and aside from Rabin's assassination in the early 90s by another Jew, the reason there is no peace is because the PLO never wanted it in the past. Hamas was democratically elected and the Palestinians in Gaza have done nothing to remove them from power since then. The people in Gaza know that rockets fired into Israel will elicit a response of higher magnitude. Can you blame the Israelis for using superior military might when they have it? Absolutely not. If Mexico was firing rockets into the southern US, do you think Obama or any other president would hesitate to respond? Again, absolutely not. I am someone that supports Israel and envisions a 2 state solution. I know that Netanyahu's government is not going to be the one that makes it happen, but you can't blame the settlements for the rockets and ongoing violence. If the rockets stop and Hamas goes away forever, I can assure you that peace will soon follow. Their charter states they want to wipe Israel off the map. No matter who the PM of Israel is – extreme left or extreme right – they can't negotiate with that.

I'm in Israel as I type, here are the facts, the Palestenians in Gaza have fired over 70 rockets at Israeli and Israeli military, that is not only terrorism but an act of war. If that happened to any other country in the world a war would of been initiated. An additional fact that and this one is for CJKOREA, there are not any Jewish Palestenians today, there are however 1,500,000 Israeli Arabs, both Muslim and Christian who have the exact same rights as all other Israeli's. Further when Israel made peace with the Egyptions they tried to give them Gaza and The Egyptions did not want them. They said they are a problem and we won't make piece if we have to be responsible for them. Also Gaza is controlled by Hamas and they are a self proclaimed terrorist organization, they were elected by the Palestenians and they are not only at war with Israel but also with the PLO which controls the West Bank.
