Sources: Broadwell's security clearance suspended

Paula Broadwell, whose affair with CIA Director David Petraeus led to his resignation, has had her government security clearance suspended pending the outcome of ongoing investigations, two U.S. officials with direct knowledge told CNN's Barbara Starr.

A U.S. official previously said that Broadwell, an Army Reserve officer, did have some kind of security clearance.

Petraeus resigned from his CIA director post last week after an FBI investigation revealed he had an extramarital affair, an investigation that also prompted questions about whether his paramour, Broadwell, had inappropriate access to classified information.

Investigators have found classified information on a computer belonging to Broadwell, a law enforcement source told CNN national security contributor Fran Townsend. It was not clear if this was a computer seized at her home Monday night or one she had previously given to authorities when she cooperated back in September.

Earlier, John Nagl, a retired military officer who worked for Petraeus for years, said that Petraeus insists he never shared classified information with Broadwell. He spoke to him via e-mail on Monday and was authorized by Petraeus to talk.

Check out this story for more details on the investigation.

Actually Colonel, Holly Petraeus is the one deserving of combat pay for putting up with this piece of work for 38 years. I'd bet this isn't the first time he's cheated but I'll bet its the most public one.

Does this mean she can't keep classified stuff at her house now?

"Report Abuse" on every Col Hogan entry. Why? For his out of the box comment regarding the spouse of GEN Patraeus. Shame on this alleged Col.

His comment got deleted by the admin, so did mine. I didn't even say anything offensive. I forgive the admin for listening to their ego.

If she did have classified info on her laptop, that is very very serious and I don't care who she is. What a story this is developing into.

The fact that this lady sent anonymous, threatening emails, in my opinion, stands as prima facie evidence that she is too unstable to hold a top-secret security clearance.

I very much doubt it was a 'top secret' clearance.

She was not TS cleared. Reserve army officer means she had base clearance. "revoking her security clearance" is a sensationalized way of saying she can no longer buy ripped fuel or Copenhagen at the PX.

You have know way of knowing what level clearance she had, If she followed the rules of having a clearance she never told anybody what level it was anyway. It all depends on what access she needed to do her job not just because she was in the reserves.

What kind of an "author" is she if she has a ghost writer? With a PhD and she can't write?!

The common man's idea of "classified" and the military's are two completely different things. Any money they consider Petraeus' birth date and the name of his dog as "classified".
Btw, are these headlines getting more and more giggle-inducing? "Broadwell's clearance suspended" sounds like part of one of those Roger Moore James Bond lines.
This story's just getting weirder (and tackier). Can't wait to find out who drove 700 miles across florida in an adult diaper.

Classified simply means the information requires a security clearance to be made available. The lowliest private in the army has the most basic security clearance and has information available to them that non-military personnel don't have.

It's not much different than your doctor's office refusing to share medical records with people who have no business seeing them.

She is a west point graduate and was a graduate student at Harvard. She was writing a bookon military and a biography on Gen P. So, I think she has a reason to have a clearance.

You would be surprised how many people have a clearance... you just dont know it because then they would have to kill you

Every member of the armed forces has some kind of security clearance. For access to more sensitive information or more sensitive areas, you have to get a higher clearance. Unless someone tells us what Broadwell's clearance level was, it could very well have been the same clearance that the lowliest private has by default.
