U.N. approves Palestinian "observer state" bid

The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday endorsed an upgraded U.N. status for the Palestinian Authority, despite intense opposition from the United States and Israel.

The resolution elevates their status from "non-member observer entity" to "non-member observer state," the same category as the Vatican, which Palestinians hope will provide new leverage in their dealings with Israel.

Explaining the Palestinians' U.N. bid

Palestinian leaders had been working with dozens of supporting nations to develop a formal draft, enlisting the backing of European countries such as France and Spain. Germany abstained from the vote.

With only Harper's Canada and 7 other small nations siding with Israel a overwhelming majority of nations approved the Observer status of Palestine recognizing it for the first time as a 'state'
We the US as the world power and champions of freedom, liberty, human rights and justice should have been the first to encourage and recognize this reality. But no our poodliish subservience to wishes of netanyahu regime got us to lose one more opportunity to stand on the right side of history.

The wishes of majority of peace loving Jews in Israel and in US who rightly favor a two solution as the only peaceful resolution of this on going conflict seem to take a step forward. Only the far right and neo-cons would be dismayed.
I congratulate the Jewish Voice for Peace, Rabbis of North America for Peace and JStreet for their untiring efforts in standing for truth , peace and justice.

We dealt ourselves another blow to our credibility and prestige by siding with forces of oppression and aggression. Sad.
This was expected and yet we failed to recognize the changing dynamics.
Our Secy of State should have now accepted this reality and come out with a dignified and gracious statement. But no.

    AND! THERE must be more.
DOes this now mean Israel is free to claim Jerusalem as its capital beings how the capital of PA as recognized now by UN is now located in Gaza.
THERE are still no defined borders to palestinian lands except for those being imposed by Israel.
An assembly of nations who can proclaim a nation,Kosovo, and take those lands away from the nation that they were once part of gives PA observer status?
HE.. that's all they have been since 1948 and no matter the McBeth type hand washing of UN nations they never yet enforced any sanctions upon Israel foe war crimes theft of lands and crimes against humanity.
    THAT will magicly change now?
    I don't think so.
AT least now the PA leaders can put on Armanl Suits when they plead in front of UN. And are finally recognized as humans.

Listen people...Palestinians are just as nice as Jews. We are all nice. Give these people a break. This could be a good thing for peace in that region. Why must US the world superpower and the best country in the world agree whatever Israel says. We can agree with them for some stuff, but it seems like they rule our country too. We must stop this greed by American Jews that are controlling many things in our government. It is only fair to have Americans take actions for us, not Jewish people because they are considerably wealthy. Please people we need.to work together and vote for everything. Majority is the smart way of getting the answer right. just look at ”Who wants to be a millionaire” or now ”Millionaire”, everytime the audience votes for an answer, they.get it right. So let the UN vote for things. Many minds think great, few minds think alike. we are the influence of the world, and we dont want to lose that as it seems like America is losing.a lot of other things. We need to conquer not fall. Congratulations to the Palestine. Congratulations to Israel and Palestine stopping the war that could have ended much worse several days ago. Obama, lets work on the fiscal cliff, you are smarter than UN, think of a way to convince everybody to get these rich stinks to pay their share of tax. Lets be serious, rich are cheap so there has to be a perk as a trade off for higher tax...ummm...Write off's for green technology.
