Pentagon told to plan for cuts ahead of fiscal cliff

The White House has ordered the military to start planning for the possibility of cutting $500 billion from its budget over the next 10 years as part of the fiscal cliff, Pentagon officials said on Wednesday.

Agency spokesman George Little told reporters that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) instructed the Defense Department to start internal planning for possible spending reductions on top of other cuts already in the pipeline.

The military had been ordered for months not to get ready for the automatic budget cuts - also known as sequestration - related to the fiscal cliff that would hit January 2.

    @ PT, so we are giving these countries $50 billion a year to use to purchase products from the US? That doesnt seem like a win/win to me at all. Not to mention, in all likelihood thats NOT what its being used for!

    Wake up little mister because you ard most obviously dreaming! @ saywhat, how much did you say that the US has invested in that base and other things in Israel recently? Wouldnt that also be considered foreign aid???

    Sounds more to me like a US funded welfare program for foreign countries, similar to the food stamp program, and i know most of you abhor THAT program for our very own citizens! Yet your not seeing an issue with you taxes paying 4 it 4 other countries??

    We need to cut all forgen aid, most notably aid to isreal and egypt. Then close all european bases.
