Campus cops shoot, kill graduate student at California college

Campus police at California State University San Bernardino shot and killed a graduate student following an altercation Saturday night, authorities said.

Police said officers responded to University Village, an off-campus student dormitory, regarding a disturbance involving Bartholomew Williams, 38.

Williams became aggressive and an altercation with officers followed in the hallway of the dorm, the college said in a statement. Officers then fired their weapons because they feared for their lives, police said.

Williams died at the scene.

One officer was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injury.

Williams was majoring in educational instructional technology, and started at the school in the summer of 2011, police spokesman Sid Robinson said.

I lived in an off campus student dormitory in my mid 20's. It's not unknown for colleges to build graduate housing. I would assume that this person must have been doing something profoundly stupid. It's fairly hard to get shot by a cop in student housing. They go in knowing they are dealing with unarmed people who at worst might be on something. It's not like a ghetto.

so Ive read a lot of these comments. it seems like all the african american people are blaming racism and police brutality, and all the cops are blaming the suspect and saying its all his fault. its funny how there are so many witnesses to the crime on this comment section all at once. you are all geniuses.

Feared for their lives? What did he do? Did he yell "I'm gonna rip your head off!" ? That must've been scary..

Like that cop that arrested a 10 year old and handcuffed him for not sitting down in class. Yeah we need more of those guys "protecting" our little kids.

WAIT WAIT WAIT...Is this not another school shooting?

Oh, wait a minute, I understand why CNN only had a tiny article about it. It was good guys shooting an unarmed crazy guy. In California, only police can shoot someone when they feel in danger but not a citizen as they are not allowed to carry guns.

So, facts of this story are... Campus police respond to OFF CAMPUS squabble, get in fight with an unarmed man, THE COPS fear for their lives, SHOOT SUSPECT and hardly nothing is mentioned even here on CNN...WOW

I have to side with Jaybird, police, military and any level of law enforcement are not nor are they ever trainned to shoot for the extremities. The collateral damage and the chance to miss and allow a suspect to cause harm to others by not stopping them is a fear to consider. We are all passing judgement on the Police involved or the person shot and killed without any real information. Wait for the facts to come out and then use the FACTS to make your arguments.

Most sociopaths/psychopaths want to be in a position of authority to have control over another. 1 out of every 100 people are considered a sociopath. People assume all cops are good natured. I have personally witnessed a friend who is a cop drive off drunk in his police cruiser and leave his standard issue gun on a bed. We had to call him back and ask him if he had forgot something. So he drove back drunk grabbed his gun and left again. Was that the right thing to do? No. I have seen better choices made by crystal meth addicts.

Fat untrained cops, their solution to everything is to pull a gun then claim self defense.

So, the tl;dr is that the cops have murdered another unarmed victim without justification.
