New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen kicked off Wednesday night's star-studded Madison Square Garden concert that raised money for those enduring misery after Superstorm Sandy.
Springsteen's set included "Land of Hope and Dreams" and "Born to Run."
Proceeds from "12-12-12" benefit the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which is assisting storm victims in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Alicia Keys, launching into a customized version of "No One," told a cheering crowd, "This is our city. This is everybody's city. The resilience of this city is incredible."
Early performers include the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Roger Waters and Eddie Vedder, joined by comedians Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Billy Crystal. The Who's set included "Who Are You" and "Pinball Wizard." Images of storm damage were shown on a large screen.
"This recovery is not going to be quick," Jon Bon Jovi told the crowd during his set. "We need your support."
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie recently said the latest estimates of Sandy-related storm costs in his state were $36.8 billion, while New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters the total cost in his state was $41 billion.
Concert organizers said the event was accessible to 2 billion people worldwide, through television and Web sites. "We are having high donation volume on the web," they said on the concert's Twitter page late Wednesday.
The benefit was extraordinary and i heard on the news that all the money raised will go to the people in need. Thanks to everyone involved.
Watching the 12-12-12 concert I could not help but wonder who are part of the real 1%.
As I watched rock royalty and icons of American and British entertainment, in came to me, that those on stage are worth billions. Sir Paul himself a billionaire because of the 99%.
All that effort with 2 billion people able to watch the concert and all they could is about 30 Million.
The 1% on stage could do 30 million, by passing the hat, if they wanted to. What a shame.
I hope they release this on DVD. So many good musicians (except for the rap crap).
The older Mick Jagger gets the more he looks like the late Don Knotts.

It's a shame to read all of the negative comments that were posted. Too many angry souls are among us. I will continue to pray for those angry souls... God Bless... BTW, the Who rocked the joint...
Pray for this!
I just looked on Guidestar.org for the charity (Robin Hood Relief Fund) receiving the proceeds from the concert. They are no longer a charity and had their charter revoked by the IRS becuase they never reported on their finances. This will be a big mess. Concert organizers should have goen with the Red Cross.
Not true. The charity is The Robin Hood Foundation, which has an exemplary record. Look again. And please, do you REALLY think that musicians of that magnitude would sign on to do a concert with an organization that wasn't fully vetted???
Yeah, you are totally and completely wrong.
It was a great concert, except for Kanye West, who displayed absolutely NO talent whatsoever. I don't even know he was included in this "rock concert."
I hope the money gets to the people who need it, but doubt seriously that will happen, unfortunately. Good luck to you people!
I don't even know HOW . . . sorry for the typo!
Was I the ONLY one who was offended by Mick Jagger's comment "Well I hope you remember us when we have a rainstorm." A rainstorm? NYer's should boycott the Stones for such an inaccurate and insensitive statement. Crap, as far as I am concerned, England still has not paid off our WW2 bill !
Your concern means nothing...
"England still has not paid off our WW2 bill !" England? how about Britain, Russia, China, France, Australia, New Zealand South Africa, India..............The Lend-Lease Act was "an act to Further Promote the Defense of the United States" as until American involvement in the war, following Pearl Harbor, the act was also self serving.
Read up your history!
no surprise that the communist springsteen playing a concert with Robin Hood theme – rob the rich to give to the poor all while he sits in pile of cash because that's how it works. what a phoney.
you are an idiot
Glad to see Bruce and Jon helping out people. Lets celebrate this instead of bashing it. Helping out people is a good thing.
I won't ever forgive the Republican block for voting down a jobs bill because no one was willing to figure out how they were going to pay for the bill. How in the hell do they think they are going to pay for Sandy aid now?
Dear Folks, My name is Marylu Ferrara. I work with Ocean County Hunger Relief. Established in 1981,as a non-profit, O.C.H.R. is the county network that gets emergency food, clothes and other necessities to those who need it. As you know, Hurricane Sandy made landfall in Ocean County, NJ. Besides our office and a few sites, we rent a 30,000 ft. warehouse equiped with 4 tractor trailor loading docks, forklifts etc. We have gotten donations from all over the U.S. that we are grateful for. We are in need of your help. Our building is in forclosure. We only rent it now. We need the finances to purchase the warehouse. Last year before hurricane Sandy, we got food out to over 78,000 needy people in Ocean County, sadly more then half of them are children.
We have a terrific 31yr. track record for integrity with our finances. The loss of our warehouse would be devistating to our community at the time when we need to be there for them the most.
Please see if you can help.
