'Our hearts go out' to victims' families, Newtown gunman's father says

Peter Lanza, father of Connecticut school shooting gunman Adam Lanza, released a statement Saturday expressing condolences to the families of victims.

“Our hearts go out to the families and friends who lost loved ones and to all those who were injured," Peter Lanza said. "Our family is grieving along with all those who have been affected by this enormous tragedy.

"No words can truly express how heartbroken we are. We are in a state of disbelief and trying to find whatever answers we can. We too are asking why. We have cooperated fully with law enforcement and will continue to do so. Like so many of you, we are saddened, but struggling to make sense of what has transpired.”

Police say Adam Lanza, 20, opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on Friday morning, killing 20 students and six adults. Lanza also died at the school, authorities said.

Police also say Lanza's mother, Nancy Lanza, was killed at her house in Newtown before the school rampage began.

My heart is broken along with my fellow countrymen. But I’m haunted by the large number of civilian deaths, including many children, caused by American drone attacks in several countries. I wonder if my fellow Americans have any idea how many little children are killed suddenly in our name by our president and military with these drone attacks. Don’t these parents and grandparents and community mourn as much as we do when their children are killed mercilessly out of nowhere?

In our family, we suddenly discovered that reactions to Food dyes like the notorious Red Lake 40 and Yellow 5 was practically destroying our family. Our 2 year old suddenly was transformed from angelic to the tasmanian devil after giving him a tiny vitamin that was colored with Red Lake 40 n Yellow 5. (what the heck is the point of dye in a vitamin?!) Artifiical DYE COMES FROM PETROLEUM!! When we eliminated Red Dye from ALL of our Diets – our short fuses disappated, my husband's anxieties and ADHD quieted to almost nothing. OUr house went from tension filled to BLISS FULL. Now my question when a person SNAPs is "what has he been eating for most of his life? How much petroleum via Artificial DYes is in his brain?"

So sad and so sorry this had to happen to such an innocent group of beautiful children, and loving and protective adults – But this matter is not a result of Gun control ( The mother had legally purchase these guns) , but this battle is instead about Mental Illness – More must be said and done about recognizing Mental illness, and relentlessly began treating this awful disease – This disease is becoming more epidemic than cancer, because usually when Mental illness is at its worse stage(untreated) it not only has the potential to kill the mentally ill, but typically they harm many, many more, and mostly many innocent folks, such as Sandy Hook... R.I.P Angels that have gone on, and may the comfort and peace of the Lord abide with those whom are left to grief this tragic moment.

You don't give a rope to a prisoner so they don't hang themselves, or a belt. but free people in society
can have a rope or belt and they don't hang themselves. Perhaps parents who have troubeled children
should not be allowed to have guns?? or if they should, perhaps not an automatic one??

There was a report on CNN a day ago that said Adam had some trouble with 2 or three adults at the school
the day before the shooting. What happened to that report? was that investigated any further? was it media
misinformation? anyone knows anything on that?

My guess at what his motive was- angry at the world, angry at his mother, angry at how he was ignored, and possibly made fun of for being "weird". So, he took his anger out on his mother and decided to hurt society in one of the worst possible imaginable way... then he killed himself so that we could not punish him. In his mind, he won because he will always be famous from here on out.

Question: Why did God allow this to happen in a school? Answer: God is not allowed in schools anymore.

Seriously, Adam? It must be a sad god who is supposedly all powerful but somehow decides to obey the laws of the United States. If this happened in a Catholic school, would the bullets have turned to magic fairy dust?

Right, it's about God in schools. Why isn't God stopping the molestation in churches? Surely he's allowed there, right?

In all of this discussion, one thing is for certain: the young man, that Adam Lanza, was deeply, deeply disturbed. I cannot imagine the cacophony of voices screaming in his head, telling him to do this thing. To stand there with that rifle and spray bullets back and forth, literally cutting those little bodies to pieces.

No matter what anyone says, he wasn't "just a weird kid". I am hoping that in the coming weeks his cell phone, computer, something reveals about his state of mind. From where came this rage. I am a teacher of little ones. I am still numb.

Why do we read and read every scrap we can find? Why do we wonder at Adam Lanza's state of mind? It can't undo what was done.

We obsessively seek to be able to put ourselves in his place, even just a little, because it's so hard to grasp how this could have been comprehended, much less carried out. We hope to find something terribly wrong with the shooter, voices in his head, tortured and abused, anything that will give us a straw of reason. Something that to us, makes a scrap of sense. "Ohhh, so that was why he did it. I could see that cause and effect trail."

But we might never know. He might not have known.

Mr. Lanza found out when a reporter confronted him as he got out of his car at home, and asked for a comment. How callous is that? Are we trying to break more minds?

Don't focus on the why. It's over. It's secondary. Focus on the future, how can we better protect our most valuable resource? How can we save our children? Not just from violence, but also from being in a place where you need to commit violence.

If we strive to find out "why" so perhaps we can spot such people in turmoil and get them help before they hurt someone and/or themselves.

This man was sick, and killed kids and adults. Dad had not seen him in a long time, and had moved on with his life. Mom loved guns. What a sad holiday!!!!

he was born with mental illness , you cant fix it, many families carry the gene of mental illness, with people like this dont ever give them a gun, dont even let them play with toy guns when lil, the are more prone to violence no video games of violence either, it makes them more they transgres from teen age to adult , more problems are add on., we live a society of making kids grow up to fast , emotionally the cant handle it,if he was born with this the no one is at fault. just these kind of people can be loving caring people with right support and treatment, you want them to be responsibke in there actions, but something isnt there it dont register, and we as a soicety need to try to understand theses pple, i have seen where they put them in jail or prison, and thats the most only treatment they get, this is very sad cause this young man could of been helped

"If more people were athiests, there would be a lot less killing and suffering in the world. Histories worst atrocities have been done in God's name."

So if i caused killing and sufering in this world in the name of bacon... does that mean bacon is the problem?

There are always going to be evil, cruel, and corrupt people in this world, whatever it takes they will find an excuse. Religion is not the problem, its people. You arguement is flawed.
