GOP disarray jeopardizes fiscal cliff deal

[Updated at 1:44 p.m. ET] House Speaker John Boehner said at a news conference Friday morning that his Republican colleagues refused to back his Plan B fiscal cliff bill because of what he called unfounded fears of being blamed for a tax increase.

"They weren't taking it out on me," he told reporters. "They were dealing with the perception that somebody might accuse them of raising taxes."

Boehner on Thursday dropped plans to bring the bill to a vote after it became clear that it didn't have enough support from members of his party. This leaves negotiations in limbo Friday - 11 days before automatic tax increases on everyone.

[Initial post, 8:43 a.m. ET] House Speaker John Boehner will hold a news conference in Washington Friday morning, a day after fellow Republicans effectively scuttled his proposal to avert the looming fiscal cliff's automatic tax increases.

Boehner wanted to pass his Plan B fiscal cliff bill - which would have extended tax cuts that are set to expire at year's end for most people while allowing rates to increase to 1990s levels on income over $1 million - this week, before members of Congress went home for the holiday.

But it didn't come up for a vote, because House GOP leaders learned that they couldn't get enough of their fellow Republicans to sign on.

What this means next in the fiscal cliff talks is unclear. From here, scenarios range from intensified and ultimately successful talks in the coming days or entrenchment as the fiscal cliff becomes a reality next year, when a new Congress could enter negotiations with Obama.

And if you are an overly obese MD living in an multi-million dollar mansion with a customer base made-up of those who claim they can't work anymore... (collecting early SS or State and/or military disability pay fraudulently)...and you have been prescribing expensive drugs for profit, you are already busted.
Watch as our FBI/CIA continue to round-up drugmoney MDs.

My question was a simple one. What have the democrats put on the table besides raising taxes on the wealthy? That only saves approximately 7 days of spending. How on earth is that fiscally responsible? This prez is not in anyway shape or form ready to tackle this monster. But let's blame the republicans shall we. People are so ignorant

Good morning @chrissy @Philip and other bloggers.
    So who's surprised?
The past 4 years bear enough testimony. Their actions speak for themselves. GOP's obstructionism , detachment from public sentiment and their priorities need no further comments.

@Seth. NO! Let US NOT blame one man for the LIBOR scandal that has cost citizens well-over 300 trillion dollars over the years. No "conspiracy theory" here. Barclay's Bank[sters] have already admitted to their part in this henous criminal conspiracy. Federal Reserve chariman Geitner has already admitted in writing that the fed was aware of the LIBOR scandal in 2008. (intercepted emails)
Your president doesn't even have the authority to audit the federal reserve.
Rarely is there one lone shooter. If it's being pinned-on one man, odds are it's a hoax. President Obama is one man. Those who blame him are stupid and defy the odds.

I figured out what " forward" means. It means Obama wants to take America the same direction on the same road that Greece already traveled. Just maybe the problem isn't the GOP, just maybe the problem is the demacrats who want to be lemmings and follow Greece straight off the cliff and drown in a sea of stupidity. But hey, that's where " leading from behind" and screaming will get you because you are to chicken to stand up front and see the direction you are going.
