GOP disarray jeopardizes fiscal cliff deal

[Updated at 1:44 p.m. ET] House Speaker John Boehner said at a news conference Friday morning that his Republican colleagues refused to back his Plan B fiscal cliff bill because of what he called unfounded fears of being blamed for a tax increase.

"They weren't taking it out on me," he told reporters. "They were dealing with the perception that somebody might accuse them of raising taxes."

Boehner on Thursday dropped plans to bring the bill to a vote after it became clear that it didn't have enough support from members of his party. This leaves negotiations in limbo Friday - 11 days before automatic tax increases on everyone.

[Initial post, 8:43 a.m. ET] House Speaker John Boehner will hold a news conference in Washington Friday morning, a day after fellow Republicans effectively scuttled his proposal to avert the looming fiscal cliff's automatic tax increases.

Boehner wanted to pass his Plan B fiscal cliff bill - which would have extended tax cuts that are set to expire at year's end for most people while allowing rates to increase to 1990s levels on income over $1 million - this week, before members of Congress went home for the holiday.

But it didn't come up for a vote, because House GOP leaders learned that they couldn't get enough of their fellow Republicans to sign on.

What this means next in the fiscal cliff talks is unclear. From here, scenarios range from intensified and ultimately successful talks in the coming days or entrenchment as the fiscal cliff becomes a reality next year, when a new Congress could enter negotiations with Obama.

Generational and lifelong welfare recipients are a bigger hazard that what you say. As are those who could work but claim they can't and so live-off of the hardworking American taxpayer...for decades! Plus they get free pharmaceuticals! Throw these lazy bassterds into FEMA camps. They are in the way of our recovery.

      Your generation:
If you know of anyone committing this fraud, turn them in, even if you are related to them.
To do anything less is rather fraudulent in itself.

Your generation is a bunch of panzy failures who will only succeed in being named " America's most pathetic generation". It is you parrots who scream about the 1% rather than earning your own way. It is you parrots who say everything is Bush's faultinstead of taking responsibility for your own failures. It is you parrots who want to name it a holiday tree while you wish everyone a happy Ramadan. It is you parrots who are to pathetic to be real Americans and are causing the destruction of the greatest nation on earth.

Also, please define what "your" generation is; where it starts and all, so I can get a grasp on exactly how many people you are insulting, including, I suspect, your parents.
      Baby boomers?
      Generation X?
      The "Me" generation?
      What parameters are you setting?

Hamsta, the tradition of the "Christmas Tree' was taken from pagans.
      Do some research.
Christians do not own that tradition.

And I was talking about acknowledging the diverse America has no official religion.
Therefore, Ramadan, Hannakah, Kwanza, and every other holiday that is celebrated during the HOLIDAY is perfectly legit, in the eyes of the Federal Government.

Ya Chrissy, I'm quite sure it has absolutely nothing to do with his inefficient government takeover of the healthcare industry, absolutely nothing to do with unchecked power in his job killing E.P.A. who lists water as a pollutant, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the billions he wasted on green energy scams, I 'm quite sure it has nothing to do with his tripling the welfare spending, I 'm quite sure it has nothing to do with the millions of illegal immigrants who send their money out of country that they earned by taking your job and he granted them amnesty so they can continue to do so. I'm quite sure none of that has anything to do with it, I'm just a racist bigot right? Or is it that you need to pull your head out of the sand?

The EPA regulations have been in place for DECADES, Hamsta. Cut the GOP babble. You're saying it's OKAY for industries to dump crud into our water supply? DOH!

I don't think you're a racial bigot, but I think you are a religious bigot.
I also think that you are a bit confused as to who really granted amnesty to the illegal immigrants...and who let the borders get so lax...and who actually had the highest deportations.

And ummm is right; the EPA regulations have been in place for decades, and big biz wants them lifted so they can do whatever they want to the environment without fear of reprisal.
The BP fiasco is testament to what big biz really wants.
The very short-term jobs that Keystone may have added is not worth the risk to the environment.

The EPA has guidelines as to how much toxins are allowed in water.
The WATER isn't the pollutant, the TOXINS are.
Please, I beg of you, turn off Beck and Rush and do some research.

Right now it appears that the republicans cannot even agree on the time of day! While, WE, the people, are going crazy trying to figure out what our "elected children" are going to do, for US! This "fiscal cliff" mess is starting to look like the "kick the can down the road" AGAIN. And during this period we hear about the RICH putting their money into overseas accounts to avoid being taxed! Sooo, what can we do? I think it is way past time for WE, the people, to take back control of our "elected children". VOTE everyone of them out of office and put in some fresh ideas! Tell them that if elected we want a law, banning all these "special interest" groups from even talking to any politican. That no matter what party they belong to, what their personal goals are, that WE, the people, want them working for US! IF problems exsist, they do not go home until they are resolved for OUR interests!
