It seems we're not much closer to a deal on the fiscal cliff.

The finger-pointing and the one-liners from both sides continues as we wait to see if we'll get a vote from the House after the Democrat-led Senate passed a bill that would put off budget cuts for two months and preserve Bush-era income tax cuts for individuals earning less than $400,000 or couples earning less than $450,000.

And since I refuse to talk anymore about who is kicking a can down a road or any tired sports metaphors I’m just going to give you the latest quotes from both camps this afternoon as they try and sort this out.

House Democratic Caucus Chair Xavier Becerra:

"We now are waiting to hear from our Republican colleagues, whether or not they want to do what the Senate did in a very bipartisan fashion and give the American people the opportunity to have a vote. There are people throughout this country who might look at this deal and love it. Some might hate it. Some may not understand it. But we firmly believe that every American in this country should have a right to have a vote in the people's house."

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi:

“We are all very eager to see the form that the Republican leadership will put onto the floor today. I think that we've made gigantic progress. I hope that we can have a bipartisan agreement as we go forward.”

Now, for the House Republicans.

Spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner (and also House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who said he doesn't support the current bill):

"The Speaker and Leader laid out options to the members and listened to feedback. The lack of spending cuts in the Senate bill was a universal concern amongst members in today’s meeting. Conversations with members will continue throughout the afternoon on the path forward."

And then some specific concerns about the package from Rep. Steve LaTourette:

"We are going to take a bill that was passed on new year’s eve by some sleep deprived octogenarians that was very, very heavy on taxes and does nothing to cut spending which is really part of the big problem that we have in the country."

Make of that what you will. Bottom line: Still no House vote, still no deal.
