American journalist abducted in Syria

Gunmen have kidnapped an American journalist in Syria, the journalist's family announced Wednesday.

Freelancer James Foley was taken in northwest Syria on November 22, Thanksgiving Day in America, his family said, adding it decided to make his capture public now in the hope that media attention will increase the odds he'll be released unharmed.

"We want Jim to come safely home, or at least we need to speak with him to know he's OK," said the journalist's father, John Foley. "Jim is an objective journalist and we appeal for the release of Jim unharmed. To the people who have Jim, please contact us so we can work together toward his release."

    hope & pray James Foley comes back safely to his family & soon.
    Its free for all in Syria. What the Powers have stirred there hardly seems containable.

    Yep@saywhat. And It's obvious that "going public" isn't a strategy used by abductees. Abductors, however, oftentimes go public, even showing video of the abductee bound in a chair, for example.
    The public sentiment of the American people is a powerful thing once set in motion. Wars have been waged with it.

    "once set in motion" seems a thing of the past though. We seem to have been content with our lot and whoever keeps us on the trail, for a decade now.

    Does not an abusive man show a public face for the oppressed? Does he not also aquire toys for his own abused children from time to time? Children who get their news from TV and so are ignorant of family abuse, happy with toys.

    @bobcat. Who are "the Powers" 'saywhat' refers to? I've got a wooden nickle that says you don't have a clue, and won't answer this direct question.
    Already you could have chimed-in w/@saywhat but chose to be a smart ass instead. You really have no clue about the ME at all. Tell a joke at least.
