The attention that Brent Musburger gave to the girlfriend of Alabama's quarterback during last night's championship college football game apparently made ESPN a little uncomfortable.
ESPN on Tuesday afternoon apologized for the play-by-play man's gushing about Katherine Webb's beauty as the network showed her in the stands at the game Monday night.
"We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test. However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that," ESPN said.
CNN was not able to reach Musburger for comment through ESPN.
"Wow, I'm telling you, quarterbacks - you get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman. Wow!" Musburger said during one of his several in-game comments. Webb subsequently became an Internet sensation as Alabama trounced Notre Dame. Read more about Musburger's comments, the public's reaction, and the reaction from Webb herself.
What is the problem? It apperars this is media exploiting itself.
They showed K State's QB's chick many times during the Fiesta bowl, too. This is nothing new. OK, so the commentators didn't comment on how hot she is (while no Miss Alabama, still something nice to look at), but come on. This just really shouldn't be a story. It's very indicative of how shallow our society can be at times.
No reason at all to apologize if all he said what was was in the printed transcript shown here. I didn't watch the game, so did he go on and on and on while the game was happening or what? Did they contstantly cut back to her over and over? Did he make over-the-top personal comments about her other than "wow, she's beautiful"? What is it? I mean, what woman doesn't want someone to think she's beautiful? And ladies everywhere, face it, this woman is GORGEOUS. A total knockout! So, now what? Do I have to apologize to her for that? Or is it more that I have to apologize to the women who aren't as blessed in the looks department such that people don't fall all over themselves for them? Or rather, us, I should say.
This has gone beyond ridiculous. Musburger said 2 or 3 off the cuff sentences that were in no way offensive to anyone. And he did this when the cameraman pointed his camera at her, probably at the direction of the producer. Not that anyone should be spoken to or aplogize, but if it's anyone, it's the Producer. And are those her teeth, or does she have a mouth full of Chiklets?? (that's why I'm not on the air)
There wasn't any heavy breathing or perverse innuendos. These people have lost their minds.
Hey, but we can show crotch grabbing all day long, right?
I was watching when Musberger made the comments and was I thinking "jeez dude, put it back in your pants!".
This is what I would call *spare change news* ; hardly worth reporting on.
Did he lie, or say anything that was incorrect? So what's the big deal. He probably had a good woody going.
all he did was call a pretty woman pretty, get over it. She didn't care so all the librals need to get over it
Wow... What a big to-do about nothing... Is the media bored with all the real stuff that going on... They have to look for dirt where there is none. Dude paid a woman (who obviously is all about her "beauty") a compliment. Big whoop!!! He wasn't rude, crude, or disgusting... Geeze people... Get real...
Brent must like giant horse teeth.
Much Ado About Nothing.....Wild Willy Shakespeare
How on earth did this become a story?
She has very nice fake teeth. Other than that this is not a story!!!!!!
