Morgan on fiery Alex Jones interview: ‘Startling,’ ‘deluded’

Social media still is buzzing about last night’s explosive “Piers Morgan Live” interview with radio host Alex Jones. This morning, Morgan says the fiery exchange only helped his case for stricter gun control.

“I can’t think of a better advertisement for gun control than Alex Jones’ interview last night,” Morgan told “CNN Newsroom” late Tuesday morning. “It was startling, it was terrifying in parts, it was completely deluded. It was based on a premise of making Americans so fearful that they all rush out to buy even more guns.

“It showed no compassion whatsoever to the victims of gun shootings, and the kind of twisted way that he turned everything into this assault on the Second Amendment is exactly what the gun rights lobby people do. And it’s a lie. It cannot be allowed to continue.”

Jones, on Morgan’s show to talk about petition he started to deport Morgan back to the UK for expressing his views on gun control, warned that "1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms." As of noon Tuesday, "Alex Jones" was trending on Twitter.

EXACTLY@ nunya! I live in an area where crime is outrageous and you have to be able to protect yourself because this city has a population of over 10k and only 3 squad cars per shift. But i still believe assault rifles should not be allowed to common citizens!

Alex Jones lost his credibility when he began to yell. If you have a specific position on a topic, one should be able to state it without yelling and mocking ones accent. There is a small segment of the population that will listen to Mr. Jones but the vast majority of people out there will dismiss him simply because of his inability to articulate his position without resorting to yelling.

100% agreed. I'm embrassed that this guy is an American and that there is an audience who actually listens to his radio show. He should FOREVER check himself into a pyschiatric facility.

Alex Jones came across as not compelling at all, rude, and ignorant. He did more harm to the argument that he wanted to make by yelling and screaming and not engaging in a civil conversation. He makes my state look so bad, I feel so disappointed about that. He is wrong, and has no basis (and it appears intelligence) for an argument.

Ooops!! Does that Alex Jones have a job? If I were a republican and supported more guns to the people I would forbid that man to attend any interview. He seem sto be the kind of personality that you definitely don't ant to own a gun.

These redneck Americans that believe that the solution to a problem is to feed the problem with more energy. Luckily the biggest economy in the world are soon to be China so that US will have less impact on the world especially if the Republicans would gain more support!!

I had to turn the sound off and read the captioning. This man is a prime example of why making assault rifles unavailable to the general public is necessary. I hope they put a lot more like him on the air because it just brings to light how unhinged and paranoid they are. Having him on was a public service.

I can't believe how narrow minded ppl can be these days...ppl kill ppl it doesn't matter the weapon. I don't see baseball bats, knives, bricks, ropes etc wanting to be banned and they kill more ppl the guns do. I don't think that non gun owners really know what it takes to get a gun, hold a cpl etc...do your homework check it. There is a lot you have to do and a lot you have to know and a background check is a must as well as fingerprinting etc...I believe in the 2nd Ammendment and I will not let anyone take my right to protect myself or my family away from me. That would be suicide. Alex Jones should not have been picked to represent guns and our 2nd Ammendment rights but in NO WAY is Piers Morgan the one who should be arguing against it. He is as UNAMERICAN as they come. Chicago has one of the highest rates of murder by guns and that city (and state) has a gun BAN...no guns are allowed there at all! Seriously Piers Morgan plz go back to England.

Does anyone at Cnn or any lefty anywhere have time to drive piers back to the country that showed up to the revolution dressed like targets. They love to be victims but we don't. The main reason for the 2nd amendment is to protect citizens from the government. Get over it and realize we will just have to take out the idiots when they come to do us harm. I WILL DEFEND MY HOME AND FAMILY! AT ANY COST TO INCLUDE SHOOTING, STABBING OR STRANGLING ANYONE THAT COMES TO DO US HARM! Next off learn your weapons! An ar-15 shoots a 22 Cal. Bullet at high speed. You can take a shotgun with buckshot and shoot into a crowd and kill 20 people with one shot. Y'all are dumb as hell and we ail have a revolution if they try to take our GUNS! EEspecially when we are law abiding citizens. Don't. Tread on me!

I watched some of Mr. morgan's peice on guns in America last night. Mr. morgan, I hope I don't sound insenitive but< as far as the shooting in the movie theater I would much rather had a gun to shoot back at this fool rather than cower in fear and hope i dont get shot. Most people that have carry permits know how to use a gun and don't just start poping off rounds and anything. if I had been armed in the front row when this loser first walked in, he would have been dropped before he got off one shot. even if he had a bullet proof vest on (which I doubt he did) a .45 caliber round would have knock his a$$ down to the floor, trust me on this. you news people need to understand what you are talking about. I would much rather have a gun than be another defenseless victim. And BTW: taking guns away from people like me won't help, Making people turn in there guns or go to jail is your answer? really? OK, I would turn mine if the law makes me, but how many criminals do you really think will follow the law.. Give me a break. maybe you should go back to Great Brittan where the crime rate is higher!

yesterday 92yr old grandmother was shot on a street corner, do you expect her to carry a gun ?
6 yr girl was shot at Aurora theare, do you expect her to carry a gun?
All the 5-6 yrs old shot in Sandyhook school, do you expect them to carry a gun?
All the indian people got killed in a temple in Wisconsin, do you expect them to carry a gun while they are going to temple for a prayer?

All I am trying to say is that Gun is not the answer to a gun. This happens in a war-zone (which results in lots of deathes) not in a civilized country.

Does anyone know the stats that how many people got killed with guns vs how many people protected themselves in a given year?

I am anti gun 100% but CNN and that over rated Piers Morgan knew EXACTLY what they were doing by getting this guy on the tv for an interview. Everyone knows Alex Jones is off the wall and sounds like a paranoid redneck conspiracy freak... and that's exactly what CNN wanted... and that's what they got. Now the gun totters all look nuts by association. Don't be so gullible American population... you are all played like violins everyday of your lives by the media and gov.

The pompous Piers Morgan can't make a rational argument, so he relies on bringing in a whack job like Alex Jones to use as his strawman. "You see, anyone who supports any kind of gun ownership is just like this wierdo Jones guy." I can't think of a better argument for birth control than Piers Morgan.
