37 foreign workers killed in Algeria siege, prime minister says

[Updated at 2:02 p.m.] U.S. State Department confirms the deaths of three Americans in Algeria: Victor Lynn Lovelady, Gordon Lee Rowan and Frederick Buttaccio.

[Updated at 12:43 p.m.] Three Americans were killed in the hostage crisis at an Algerian gas plant last week, a senior administration official said Monday. Previously, one American was known to have been killed.

[Original post] Thirty-seven foreign hostages died in last week's terrorist attack on an Algerian gas plant, Prime Minister Abdul Malek Sallal said Monday. Algerian authorities had previously reported the death toll as 29.

Five foreign workers remain missing.

    The hostages died as a result of the Algerian army's 'quick response'.
    On the the French invasion of Mali, the reason for this incident, British PM says "N.Africa war could last for decades".
    So whats new? Decade of wars and their legacy of death,destruction, misery, corruption and torture is ours to own too.

    They died because of the French,Algeria not listening to Pres.Obama and other dignitaries saying to stand down and negotiate,not plow in head first not knowing who you're facing..Now the facts come out about this terrorist leader losing an eye and others that had a grudge against the French for past deaths also that were brought on years ago,how karma rears its ugly head ha!!
