Police: Las Vegas officer kills wife, son and then himself in burning home

Even for stone-faced, seen-it-all-before officers, the act that took place at a police lieutenant's Las Vegas-area home yesterday was deeply distressing.

The 52-year-old lawman, police said, killed his wife and child, called 911 to say he was burning his house down and warned he would take the life of anyone who tried to stop him. Then he waited.

Pardon me, it's late... should have said, or is it a matter of carefully controlling an obvious hoax.

Cut it out @ cnn. Will we get the toxicology reports on this officer unlike Adam Lanza's which will be withheld? This according to the Medical Examiner who was interviewed, only the cause and manner of death will be made public.

Show some respect to the victims and their families.  They deserve time come to terms with this tragedy and to grieve.

Should take their guns away too

    .. they should only have
7 rounds also ... then the New York Police can't spray 50 bullets and miss 47 times.

Las Vegas was hit hard when the housing bubble broke...and the gangs took over parts of Las Vegas where whole neighborhoods were left with only a few families still living there, making house payments..many homes were looted for anything of value..including the appliances, plumbing and copper wiring...Those still living in there own houses were very afraid for their family, kids..with all the violence from the gangs in their own neighborhoods..Just Google it...

I wonder what the stress levels were like then, and still are, for the Las Vegas Police....I think it was down sized due to budget cuts..Stress is the great mind killer for good and bad people alike..

This is for all the liberals who don't like guns...

Apparently; you can't trust cops with guns anymore then the rest of the general population. They are just as likely to misuse their weapons as anyone else....

    Now what?

      @Mary

      100% agree

But there will not be a Task Force, appointed by the president, to investigate that potential.

Because big Rx companies have more lobbyists in Washington then the NRA does.

      Its all about money....

      And

      Obama care....

    Tragic.
The cop was not driven by the desire for a public massacre of innocents to display the power of wielding an automatic. We shall have to wait & see what drove him to take his family down with him.
