A former CIA officer who pleaded guilty in October to identifying a secret agent was sentenced today to 30 months in prison.
John Kiriakou and prosecutors agreed on the sentence length as part of the plea deal he entered into three months ago. In her Alexandria, Virginia, court, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema said that she rejected the defense's attempts to characterize Kiriakou as a whistle-blower, and she would have sentenced the 48-year-old former agent to more time if he had been convicted at trial.

Please give me a brake, what was the collateral damage. Secrete agents live in communities like normal people i think that is the point no! and are know by neibours what now should we put next door neibours in jail for knowing who their employer is?
Identified the agent to whom? And what collateral damage resulted from this action? Please elaborate

Didn't this guy know that only Karl Rove is allowed to do this?
Haha I usually hate liberal sarcasm on CNN.com but... Karl Rove is mutually hated by all who think with common logic.
Yeah, no one seemed to think it was a big deal when he did it, eh?
Jessie, I'm not a lib, so I guess it confirms what you said about him being hated mutually.
It's sad when I see him on Fox News, and people actually listening to his babble.
Rove didn't out an agent..her husband did
Nonsense.
Is that the excuse the Bush administration and the GOP is selling? (giggle)
And who outted her husband and herself? Dick Cheney or Karl Rove, sir. Too bad we will never know for certain because they both used executive privilege to back out of a CONGRESSIONAL hearing to find out.
Another reason to love your country but fear your government
This traitor should be in Leavenworth for 30 years instead of 30 months; he got off way too easy.
G o o g l e "guillotine, US bases"
Sad that a man reports what is against the geneva convention gets slammed in jail and yet a vice president can do the same but did so to shutup the outed cia agents husband up cause he wanted a war with Iraq. So torture is now legal. I beleive we classify things in the U.S. so the citizens dont know the truth. Have Americans become so passive you forget what the Pentagon papers revealed and what it ended.
This whole story sounds strange and we, the readers, have little to go on . If he was sentenced for revealing a name than Bush ,Cheney should have gone to jail for revealing Wilson wife's name who worked for CIA. Obviously JUSTICE has its prejudices. As usual little guys go to jail, big crooks are immune. Big bangsters , guilty of embezzling billions are still getting bonuses. Truth and Justice are just empty words in the US and that is why we are going down the tubes fast . It was not so before, with much less evil.
This story sounds fishy and the truth is hidden. It is a very poor article at best. I would use the word horrible, but it is becoming common standard among "investigative reporters". What is wrong with the management to allow such stupidity to be printed ?
John Kiriakou exposed Disk Cheney's waterboarding torture methods a International War Crime....and he gave the undercover agents code name.....a mistake yes..But Dick Cheney's office leaked the real name of an undercover CIA agent, because her husband questioned Dick Cheney's WMD information....When does Cheney start his prison sentence in Europe for War Crimes??
