Netherlands queen to step aside; son will take throne

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has just announced in a recorded statement that she is to abdicate her throne on April 30 – 33 years to the day since she took over from her mother, Juliana, who also abdicated.

The queen will be 75 on Thursday.

Her son, Crown Prince Willem- Alexander will ascend the throne.

The queen's, or king's, position in the Netherlands is largely ceremonial with little real political power.

We'll provide more details as they come in to CNN.

I lived in The Netherlands for seven years. She was a good Queen for the Dutch, I wish her well.

...anachronistic do dah! Royalty is not my fancy. Giving favor to one due to their bloodline is beneath me.

In Britain, Lizzie might consider the same thing if it weren't Chuckie in line after her.

A friend of mine, one of the finest book editors in NYC, attended a Fifth Avenue party composed primarily of opera singers and conductors. He met a charming lady, simply dressed, with some pearls. She discussed writing and publishing with him for a long time, displaying impressive knowledge of his field, as well as of singing.
Then my friend asked her, "and what do you do?"
"I'm the Queen of the Netherlands," she said.

I guess you know that from personal experience. May as well come out of the closet, you are mainstream now.

Those who accuse are usually guilty of the same behavior themselves.

Well, MY friend is friends with Harry Wales. They went to University together and they played on the same polo team for 3 years.

      This is also a lie.

Didn't read the story did you? Nothing is being dismantled. She is stepping down and her son is assuming the throne.

If it adds gains while, and by, reducing costs across all Capital Allocation Categories (Life) to the Netherlands, then it is Profit Maximization. She can take a parental role and practice the skill of growing and developing the cognitive architecture that makes great royalty like a great parent does.

Willem-Alexander already completed his military dutin in the 80's, he's quite a bit older than Harry.

I like monarchies. They are rather interesting and its great that
families in royalty have something worthwhile to pass on to
their children. As long as they aren't evil dictators
    monarchies are fine with me.

Prince Willem-Alexander forfeited his (distant) succession rights to the throne of each of the sixteen Commonwealth Realms (like Canada and Australia, etc.), because he married a Roman Catholic. I wonder how that'll play out with the Quenn stepping aside?
