A chain-reaction accident Thursday on Interstate 75 killed at least three people and injured 15-20 others in Detroit, state police said.
The accident started shortly before 9 a.m. over the Rouge River Bridge, said Robert Morosi of the Michigan Department of Transportation. At least 30 cars were involved in the pileup, he said.
Snow was falling at the time of the crash, Morosi said, describing conditions as a "typical Michigan winter morning."
The jaws of life were used to pull people out of three vehicles, State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said.

They were driving 25 to 30 miles an hour!!!! And ive lived in michigan my whole life, mainly in Northern Michigan so YES i have driven on the freeways of michigan plenty so yea i kinda know what im talking about when it comes to whiteout conditions.
Correct. I have driven across that bridge at least 1000 times. You can lose sight of the car ahead of you easily in light fog and much more so in the sudden snow squall we had this morning.
Are you KIDDING ME. This was a fatal accident. Shut your holes, unless you have RESPECT for those that died. Today. In a car accident. With a car. The driving kind. Automobile. Not a gun. Not in the past 5 minutes at least.
40-50 car pileup on I-70 just west of Indianapolis....... happened around 3pm EST. Not sure about injuries.
two of the people that were killed are from Windsor Ont Canada ,right across from Detroit ,,always ahead of CNNhttp://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/01/31/mile-long-pileup-of-vehicles-closes-i-75-in-detroit/
Joe I'm glad you clarified that, I have family there. Even tho I'm sure someone would've called me by now, still worried me when I saw it
local Detroit news is reporting 3 dead–very sad
RIP little Canadian Children
NRA/gun-lovers, please get lost. Guns serve one purpose: shooting things. You might need a car that goes over 80mph to rush you (or your child) to the ER after being shot by someone with a gun. As for the snow-tires and chains, Detroit cannot afford to keep the roads in good shape as-is, and those rip them up. Ice is ice. Chains might slow you down, but that'll just mean every car behind you will smash into you, because they won't stop. All-season radials (good ones) are better than the old bias-ply snow tires of long ago. Personally, I'm in favor of snow-days for everyone when the weather is treacherous. Nobody should be forced to risk their life to go to work, unless you're a cop, fireman, 9-11 operator, or snow plow driver. More telecommuting would mean a lot less demand for gasoline. (Translated: lower gas prices). When you get behind the wheel, legally, it means you have passed both written and behind the wheel driving tests and have good vision. You accept the risk. I don't accept the risk when your kid sneaks/steals your gun and takes it to my kids' school. Both in CT and Columbine, the kids stole the parents' guns from locked gun lockers. Cars get people from point A to point B. Guns get people shot.
you get lost this story is not about guns. next your ignorance will be a call for a ban on driving won't it????
There was another pile up shortly after that 60 miles north. But it wasn't as bad as this.
3 are dead.
2 more pile ups in Michigan including a 20 car pile up and 9 car. No deaths.
@ Zach. It was 4 dead. 1 adult and 3 children.
