Officials: Militants target Pakistan army base in attack that leaves at least 35 dead

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) - Militants attacked an army base in northwest Pakistan in a coordinated assault that resulted in an hours long gun battle that left at least 35 people dead on Saturday, intelligence and security officials said.

At least 13 security personnel, 10 civilians and 12 militants were killed in the early morning attack on the base that included housing for Pakistani military personnel and their families near the town of Serai Naurang in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the officials said.

About 40 militants targeted the base as well at least one house believed to be a home for some of the personnel and their families.

Two of the militants who were killed were wearing suicide jackets, intelligence officials said. Ten civilians, including three women and three children, also died when one of the suicide bombers entered a nearby house and detonated the explosives, they said.

Pakistanis harbor terrorists near all Pakistani military bases, just like the one in Abbottabad. Pakistanis fund and arm terrorists. While Pakistani military is very good at killing unarmed minorities like Shia and Ahmadis, it has no skills to fight well armed terrorists. When you keep terrorists next to your bases and have no skills to fight them, what do you expect? Figure it out yourselves, geniuses!

Completely off base & misleading @coolude. You have no clue to what you are talking about.
Pakistan army has suffered more than 3000 deaths & counting, fighting these militants for us. Their air & ground operations in the N.West have eliminated militants and they in turn suffer these 'reprisals'.
No army including ours and no matter how well equipped has an answer to the tactics of these militants. Its not a traditional warfare.

I guess it may not be such a hot idea to arm, train and support terrorists in your own back yard, right Pakistan armed forces?

    Hello ?

Bin Laden was given free housing right outside the military compound in Pakistan. Terrorists are given free housing all around the military compounds by the Pakistani military. May be there was a plumbing problem which made these terrorists express their displeasure toward their landlord. No big deal here.

Malala was the youngest wife of bin Laden. Bin Laden and Malala lived outside the military base in Abbottabad. When Malala wanted to divorce bin Laden, she was shot. Bin Laden's people are still mad at the army because the army did not stop Malala from divorcing bin Laden.
