First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.
First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January. After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.
Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.
“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.
And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

The canopy rails have no locks or seals. The only think holding it in place is the pivot at the back. The canopy will come off before it the plane leaves the ground.
Does it "FLY".. that would be a start... why it is not "Flying" like a single engine river plain would... at least.
The only way this leaves the ground is if the guys from Mythbusters attach half a dozen JATO rockets to the wings. Which would rip the caopy off, unless a sizeable amount of duck tape is applied.
Oops – "industry" – sorry folks, typing on an iPhone.....
this craft is a dum dum. It violates many basic aerodynamic rules and sort of makes Thunderbirds look even real. Well, if it can get off the ground, assuming the undercarriage retracts and the gadget is still airborne, our jets will pulverize that plywood/fiberglass toy to Allah's graveyard and waiver the virgins as well. Lucas probably having a giggle or two.
Does it even HAVE engines? No pics from the back.
I'm trying to think of an engineering reason for those wing... but I'm coming up with nothing. Seems like the entire plane was designed around looking intimidating instead of being functional.
Well, if you've read anything related to Iran the last 8 years, intimidating but questionable functionality is the mantra. You can insert North Korea in that category as well.
Hahahaha!!! please stop, my gut is about to burst!
Thats what I was thinking. It looks phoney and how come theres no vids or pics of this thing flying?
Can someone explain to me why everyone is telling us that Iran is a nuclear threat? They're building toy fighters and sending monkeys into space. Someone is trying to start a war, and its not Iran. I just hope the president isn't having any of the BS those folks are feeding him.
Diversionary tactic. They think this will make us stop looking at the nuke's and concentrate on their air force instead. Fools.
It's probably just the drone they captured photoshopped.
Looks like when Homer Simpson was designing cars.
haha i nearly lost it when i read this. soo funny.
im imagining the pilot sitting in the plane as it spins in a circle, with a big grin on his face and waving to the audience as everyone stares in shock/disgust at the plane.
Also what does the pliot do, open the canopy and shot with a pistol.
This mockup was only intended to fool Ahmadinejad. So expecting it to look like an impressive jet aircraft, is expecting a little too much.
COBRAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
LOL!
I wonder if the monkey is Lost in Space.
where is the air intake? maybe it's so advanced that it has a photon engine.
How do you say "I just pooped my pants" in Iranian?
'Almadenejad'
( shoe flying towards him ) lol
i think it does shoot a 50 caliber sandal or heal seeking pita
Careful, you might break the toy...err plane.
Blah
Gezuntheit.
you say, "Qaher 313"
But notice that it says F313 in the side, not Q313. Could there have been a miss label?
Exactly how much it cost to research and build.
your priority at your mental age should be potty training, when you grow up you can also learn farsi.
In Iranian? You mean in Arabic.
Actually Iranians aren't Arab, they're Persian... and they don't speak Arabic, they speak Farsi. :p
who cares
The Iranian language is Farsi, not Arabic. Before you correct someone, you might want to be sure you know what you're talking about.
They speak mostly Farsi in Iran. You'll get shot for call them Arabic.
It's a cute toy, I doubt it really flies.
You mean Farsi
You mean Farsi? Iran isn't an Arab country and they don't speak Arabic.
That would be in Farsi, not Arabic.
Farsi
Farsi, actually.
Iranians don't speak Arabic, Thomas. They speak Farsi, also known as Persian.
In Arabic? You mean Persian, Thomas.
iranians speak farsi, not arabic
Why in Arabic? Since the national and predominant language in Iran is Farsi.
... You mean Persian... God some people are idiots.
I hope you're kidding, Thomas. Persian is the most spoken language of the country.
No, in Iranian (Farsi). Iran is not an Arab country.
Farsi.................
Actually they speak Farsi in Iran. Not Arabic.
If you correct someone please check your facts.....the language spoken in Iran is Farsi......
The language most Iranians speak is Farsi, sometimes called Persianin in the West. It is not Arabic. I sure hope the "experts" who CNN has been quoting about the aircraft know more about aviation then they do about Iran.
@Thomas,
Iranians don't speak Arabic. They speak Persian, also known as Farsi.
@Everyone else,
First try to educate yourself about anything before commenting Its obvious most commentators with 12 year old mentality are commenting here. You don't even know what language they speak, and trying to pass judgement on Aircraft technology, are all of you Avionics Engineers, or some sort of avionics experts.....
haha, what an idiot, Iranians speak farsi not arabic. funny when a troll fails miserably.
Iranian's not the same as Arabic. They're not even related. Farsi is in the same language family as English and most other European languages. Arabic is related to Hebrew and Aramaic and not much else. They use the same alphabet, but so do English and Basque, which aren't at all related.
Actually, the official language of Iran is Farsi.
They speak Farsi in Iran.
Iranians are persians.
Their language is neither Persion nor Iranian.......it is called Farsi
You probably have not heard of Farsi, I don't think they get that far on Faux news. Try educating yourself a bit
Actually it's Farsi, not Persian or Iranian, nor as they themselves will very quickly point out, not arabic.
No, he means "in Farsi", not "in Iranian." Persians are not Arabs, and as such they don't speak Arabic, they speak Farsi /Persian...
This is the caliber of educated people that post to this board.
Their language is PERSIAN you culturally insensitive westernized comment leaver!!!
It's mot Persian it's Farsi
He's right you know. The Iranian language is Farsi which is Persian I believe. And I think one of their finest astronauts, Curious George, is going to fly their new plane.
In IRAN there are many different languages including Persian in the centre, Azeri in the north, Kurdi in the northwest, Balochi in the south and Arabic in the west.
Apparently its now ENGLISH as per the writing on the jet. Which lends to the reasoning that they stole it from Hasbro.
Iranian/persian people speak FARSI. Just like I don't speak American. Chill....
من خودم فقط pooped
