Iran's newest warplane something from 'GI Joe?'

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January.  After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

When video footage of THAT plane in flight is released, I'll BEGIN to accept a remote POSSIBILITY it's really an aircraft! Wow, how pathetic they are.

Too bad we didn't see this sooner. In this day of computer generated images, it would have been pretty easy to put this plane in the new 3-D version of TopGun. Jus sayin....

Don't discount this plane. A boxcutter in the hand of a terrorist was lethal weapon as they took out the World Trade Center. Let's not discount the cleverness of Iranians. Perhaps the engineers decided to make it light to fly better or who knows for what reason. This plan could do plenty of damage if used cleverly. Look at U.S. drones. They, too, look like toy planes.

What they think, We borned last night. A paper plane would have a better design and look then whatever they named that "Matchbox" toy. That fake toy might not even flot on the water. They should take a picture of a Monkey on the ejection seat rather have a fake pilot in that place. They sure made my day. ha Ha ha.

    1) That canopy would take off before the plane does. 2) These ground shots are the most extreme maneuvers you'll ever see.

Let's cut them some slack. i mean it appears it was constructed in the same high school gymnasium they are displaying it in, so let's hear a "rah! rah!" for doing the best they can under less than ideal working conditions. 🙂

Pure propaganda -- just like Sadam Hussein claiming to have weapons of mass destruction. Iran imports its technology from North Korea, China and Russia and claims they are made in Iran.

The entire thing will come crashing down. The plane will just catch fire in flight without shooting it out of the sky.

No it wont. To crash down it has to take off first – and that seems very unlikely.

My main concern is the Jet is sitting on a Stargate

It looks kind of small doesn't it? And were ARE the rivets? (oh yeah, cardboard doesn't rivet well) Methinks this is nothing but a new Muslim shortcut to those 72 virgins!

Mocking religion isn't bigotry, anymore than making fun of one who talks to Elvis is. Let's face it, some things are mock worthy.

Instills great fear..........NOT. They can't even make a toy that works, never mind a fighter aircraft. It looks as aerodynamic as a shoe box.
