Iran's newest warplane something from 'GI Joe?'

First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.

First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January.  After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.

Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.

“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.

And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

Upon close observation the canopy has no locking mechanism just smooth borders both on canopy and fuselage
How would it remain closed in flight ? No Hud in a fighter ? but there is ample room for a lunch box behind the pilots seat
Nice mock up Does the Iranian president know how stupid he looks trying to pass this off as a real plane
I have seen far better detail in many RC models

How big of a rubber band does it take to get it in the air?

QUIT picking on IRAN! This plane is perfect for target practice. It's probably cheaper than the missiles that would shoot it down!

I must add this also the Russian S-300, S-400, S-500 anti aircraft missile system are the most formidable systems in the world with no equal, the Israelis sent delegations to Russia many times to persuade them to not sell the S-300 system to Iran to no avail, the Russians gave them the blueprints for them to build them themselves of which they have and have upgraded them also, an attack on Iran will be a one way trip for any aircraft and the Israelis don't believe that 70 black eyed virgins are waiting for them in heaven, they want to return to be with their earthly wives. I think we have a Fait-Accompli of the first order. The race between the hare and the tortoise where ultimately the tortoise wins is what we have here and that time is now.

Iranians do have some pretty scary fantasies. They should be bottled up, tightly, without possibility for fresh air until the time its foretold they will team up with Russians, Chinese, and other middle eastern zealots but at least their destruction will be guaranteed.

The Iranians were going to have a fly-by demonstration but they could not find a pilot willing to go.

If it doesn't fly maybe the Iran Navy wants it for a boat.

Hey, pride before a fall! Granted, the plane is pretty odd and I doubt it is any match for the US Air Force. But, they only have to get lucky once for it to be a victory!

someone tell these bozos to put the panel numbers on the inside of the panel. Also the fastener spacing on the panels are not per real aircraft specifications. This is a prop for the sheeples. Plus it is missing pins to safe the gear.

The Iranian government hasn't yet figured out how to use Photoshop to give people actual engineering skill.

Why is all the nomenclature and warnings on the aircraft in English? No one bit of Arabic.

Maybe because they are not Arab and don't speak Arabic. Try Farsi.

Iran and North Korea would be funny in their ridiculousness except for the fact that one, or both, of these countries will start the next world war– and it's going to be nuclear. Just a few well-placed MOABs and we'll all be good. C'mon Mr. President, make it happen!
