First it was monkeys in space (or not) and now it’s “GI Joe” fighter jets. Not the best of times for Iran’s aviation and aerospace programs, at least if you listen to the skeptics.
First there were doubts about Tehran’s claim it sent a monkey into space in late January. After photos of two different monkeys that were aboard the alleged one-monkey space shot surfaced, Iran media said there was a photo mix-up and, yes, there was just one Iranian monkey in space.
Then this week Iran unveiled what it said was its new high-tech stealth fighter plane. The jet shown in pictures on the website of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the butt of jokes all week from aviation bloggers.
“This aircraft looks a lot like an old GI Joe toy,” wrote one blogger.
And from another, “This has to be a joke, right?”

Iranian "engineers" are still working on perfecting the Hong Kong Phooey Mobile.
Reminds me of the fearsome Scud missile from Desert Storm I, pathetic compared to US smart bombs that we could watch on tv as they flew down a chimney. I guess the Scud was kind of like a smart bomb, because you fire it from the trunk of your car then go home and watch CNN to see where it landed. Thanks Sam.
Lake Wikkiwokki Amusement Park sells off it's last 1970s era kiddie ride, Iranian military hits the next level. The American Way, baby.
Total propaganda article by CNN. The same news network that glorified the iraq war. Every one of the captions are completely USA biased and focused on ripping Iran for posting it's own propaganda. As if CNN was innocent.
If this news agency was not all about twitter and had any integrity left, they would not be so blatantly biased. But hey, at least they got rid of investigative journalists so that they could remain so "trusted" in the name of Facebook "news".
This article is almost as bad as the crap at FOX. At least we can get our news from the Comedy network with a significantly higher quality.
Can anyone else make out the signs in the background? in PIc 1 the right sign says "We Killed And Acquired",
The countless snide, arrogant and vulgar comments posted here remind why Iran is hellbent on building warplanes and nuclear weapons
I just made one of these with construction paper and some elmers.
Don't poke fun – Dr. No and the guys who designed "supercar" worked very hard on this plane – they threw all of the supermarionation at it that they possessed.
I just made one of these with construction paper, two toothpicks, and some elmers. Didn't really need the toothpicks.
Qaher-313 Flying Shoe. Comes in sizes 9-13.
lol @ this new jet! but the language is not arabic, iranian, or persian: its farsi 🙂
OK, this plane and this picture are clearly fake. Now one has to ask, what kind of country pulls such a foolish and childish stunt like this? This is absolutely, and confoundedly ridiculous to the point of absurd.... And they think that they should be trusted with nuclear weapons? Even if this was strategic, (a bluff etc.) how could an entire country be so sloppy and naive, and in all their understanding and ability, this was the best they could do? Wow...............
No different than USSR during the cold war parading fake missles around Red Square trying to make it look like they were keeping up with the US in the arms race.
and these people are a threat to the middle east?
These are the people who captured a U.S. drone and reversed engineered it technology? These are the people making a nuclear weapon which threaten Israel?
I dont think that blocking sanctionsis affecting Iran much...
I think I see an 8 track player in picture 6.
