Complaint filed in transgender child's case

A civil rights complaint is being filed on behalf of a transgendered child barred by her Colorado school district from using girls' restrooms, an advocacy group said Wednesday.

The complaint to a Colorado civil rights agency, on behalf of 6-year-old Coy Mathis, will be the first to challenge a restriction on a transgender person's bathroom use under Colorado's anti-discrimination laws, the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund told reporters in Denver.

First-grader Coy, who was born with male sex organs but identifies herself as female, had been allowed to use her school's girls' bathrooms until school officials barred her from doing so after winter break, her family says.

CNN, is it necessary to show the girl's photo? Could you please remove it?

I think the physical appearance is quite important. Without a picture of this person wearing a dress and having long purple hair you might get confused about gender. As we all know, only girls can wear dresses and boys can't have long purple hair. If they could, there would be no such thing as gender confusion.

Is that even a real picture? Look at the right ear... looks weirdly photoshopped.

This is disgusting. The school is right to bar that freak from using the girl's bathroom. In fact, let's stop her from using any bathroom and watch her explode from pee!

Girl? how is this child anything but a boy? The last line of this article says that the child is currently "Home Schooled", maybe that is where it should stay. What a messed up world we live in! God has got to be ashamed of us.

This article is about a boy whose parents were so lazy and inept that they allowed him to dress like a girl, instead of teaching him right from wrong....and how not to behave. FAILURE.

No matter what this thing calls itself, if it has male organs it is a male. I wonder how on earth a little boy thinks it is a little girl. This must be some seriously messed up house this child lives in. How can this even be an issue in a 6 year old?

The real question is "what does it mean to be a girl?". Why can't the child identify as a boy, but still wear dresses, have purple hair and enjoy other traditional girl roles?

I would not be surprised if these parents run around dressed like clowns covered in peanut butter... something is clearly amiss in that household for a 6 yr old to have these issues..

the brain is ACTUALLY different... gays cannot help them self except to abstain... as is serial killers and sociopaths.. the actual pics of the brains shows they are deformed

Absolutely no proof of that. Any studies showing different hormonal levels and chemistry in brains of gays...was obtained after birth. it is a FACT that the brain's chemistry can be altered with outside stimuli. In other words, if you act gay, your pituitary gland will likely secret less testosterone.

NO SUCH THING as being born gay.

Good for the school. There is reason you have a boys room and girls room. Sounds like parents have a child that needs mental health evaluation. There is no scientific evidence to back up why a child is born this way. It's the parents that put it in the innocent child's mind. Gen 1:26-31 God made us in his image.

This was a sound argument until you threw in the Bible verse. Not everything needs to involve religion.

It's amazing how people will reject a sound statement simply because the person's religion is involved.
You need to grow up and be tolerant of others.

God made this child in His perfect way. He loves her the way she is – she is so blessed to have parents who love her in this way as well.

@Valerie74 ...its a HE. Get it right. The parents are guilty of allowing a 6 year to dictate what he should/should not do. Parenting fail.

His/her parents also allowed their 6 year old to dye their hair purple... I have to wonder what goes on in this house.

I wondered the same thing. I am pretty liberal, but I don't condone dying a 6 year old child's hair. I think the parents are setting up this child for a very difficult life. And, while he may identify as a girl, he's far too young to have to deal with the repercussions of being transgendered in our society.

NOT A GIRL... If one day..a 6 year old felt they inside were truly a person of color and not caucasian.. would you allow for him to come to school in black or brown face?.. at 18 adulthood, you should be able to decide that NOT 6!!! WTH is going on with society?

I'm quite certain 6 years old is a little early to identify oneself as transgendered or any life-altering decision. Hell, kids go to Sunday school at this age and believe everything they're told. What I'm assuming is that the parents wanted a girl, or noticed the boy play with a doll... and being the "progressive" parents they were, essentially forced the kid to dress up. Needless to say there will be years of psychiatric evaluation for this child. (Note: I am essentially saying that the kid is being abused by the parents, not that transgendered people are sick or need psychiatric evaluation)

The ignorant, hurtful, and disgusting comments on here are perfect examples of what is wrong with our nation's "morality."
On what planet is it "moral" to stigmatize and demean a person for something they can't help. Her being transgender hurts no one, least of all herself. Actually get to know a trans person and you might learn a few things instead of blindly criticizing them. The words you say can hurt. Your opinion that because she still has male genitalia she should have to use the boys bathroom is one thing. I disagree with you but you are well within your rights to say it. To compare the child to serial killers is not okay. Be mindful of how your words affect others. You can express your opinion without being degrading.

      Cry me a river.

A 6 year old does what its parents tell it to do. It learns right and wrong from THEM. Gays choose the behavior and try to justify their odd choice by clinging desperately to the notion that they are born that way. Which here is zero proof of. This is a boy,....and as such, should not be acting like anything else. This case should be thrown out.

you are missing the point and say it doesnt hurt anyone, what about the other kids in the class, that are now subjected to things a kid at the age of 6 should never have to understand. you are being selfish to think it doesnt effect anyone else,
