Doctor accused of severing babies' spines

he Hippocratic Oath, when properly translated, doesn't actually say, "First, do no harm." But since the time of the ancient Greeks, that's become the mantra for every medical professional.

Not so with Dr. Kermit Gosnell, prosecutors contend.

The 72-year-old Philadephia physician is accused of running a "house of horrors" where he performed illegal abortions past the 24-week limit prescribed by law. He used scissors, authorities say, to sever the spinal cords of newborns who emerged from their mothers still alive.

Reference to the Hippocratic Oath would be relevant if the fetus were consulting the physician as a patient.
The question here is the legality of an abortion performed later than twenty-four weeks.

I've never actually seen a newborn consult a physician on his own, either.

As uncomfortable as it might make some feel, wherever you draw the line between non-living and living, it is arbitrary. "24 weeks" is as arbitrary as "emerged from the birth canal and breathing air".

And many abortions have you prevented and how many babies have you adopted? None? That's what I thought.

A woman's body, a woman's choice! This is more war-on-women by right wing neanderthals who think women should be barefoot in the kitchen cooking dinner for a male breadwinner. Thank goodness for courageous men like Kermit who preserve the rights of women everywhere, and accept medicaid!

Since at least half of aborted babies are female, that will never grow up to be women, I confidently state liberals are winning the war on women.

Ms Fluke , clearly you are blinded by your own ambitions, possibly political
Have you ever seen a 24 week fetus? Via ultrasound, or, premie? They are very much HUMANS. This practice of killing is outrageous, and you are preaching about your biases against men it appears. Go find a conscience! It might help you see truth! Your comments are ignorant, and a bad reflection of who you appear to be.
Get on a new topic......... Use your brain ! You cause more problems for women due to your lack of balance, fairness, and truth. , and the law!

seriously? ! you think this is a pro-choice situation? This has nothing to do with abortion rights – this has to do with murder – this man wasn't even a licensed ob/gyn. He is the one that took advantage of the underpriveliged & poor women. Laws were passed so that these women could "choose" to end their babies lives safely. This man used his influence and power to get away with doing whatever he wanted, in the name of medicine. He's not a dr, he's a phsycopath. This has nothing to do with republicans and liberals.

Sandra Fluke: What line would be considered too far? Did you read the part where he killed a mother? Or where he had 15 year olds and 6th grade drop-outs assisting in the abortions while earning over a million dollars from MEDICAID? Is there truly part of this story or this man that can be redeemable? Unless pro-choice advocates honestly look at this situation and speak with horrified indignation against it, then people like this will continue to prey on the very people they purport to support. Until then, these vultures will feel safe in this "anything goes as long as the baby dies" mentality.

      Shame on you!
This is appalling and wrong, yes I agree that a woman has the right to choose, but what this man did was disgusting and sadistic, he went way beyond what is ethical and moral. This man wasn't even licensed to perform the procedures that you so boldly salute him for. He is responsible for the death of two women as well as guilty of killing unborn children that were well past the developmental stage that the medical field has deemed acceptable.

I will feel sorry for the fetus when the politicians stop sending adults across seas to murder other people's kids in wars! Till then, let the woman decide what to do with the incubate!

Why is CNN largely ignoring this story? Why does sports and entertainment get more attention? These horrors are much like what the Allies discovered upon liberating concentration camps. Like then, we knew much more about what was going on before taking action. Never again? Not really. We excel at repeating history. Thank you CNN.

Baring Mother and baby in the mist of dying and unable to save the mother unless an abortion is preformed, life is for NO man or women to take !
Neither I nor you have the authority to decide.
And for those women ... You have no right to decide what to do with that babies body ... leave it alone! Give it up for adoption ... Why don't you give it up for adoption ? Answer me that !!! You monster !!!
