Giffords to get Profile in Courage Award

Gabrielle Giffords, the former congresswoman from Arizona who was shot and wounded in a 2011 shooting, has been named this year's recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award, the JFK Library said.

Giffords, who has embarked on gun control efforts with her husband Mark Kelly despite the injury she suffered from the shooting, is being honored for her "political, personal, and physical courage she has demonstrated in her fearless public advocacy for policy reforms aimed at reducing gun violence."

She will receive the award at a ceremony in Boston on May 5th.

It doesn't take courage to turn a violent crime into an excuse to take guns away from law abiding citizens.

It doesn't take much courage to slam a woman after she's had her brain parted with a bullet because you can't pass a background check, Hamsta. She stands up for her convictions. You demean them because you disagree. Winner: her.

It just can't be a nutcaes' fault, it just can't be a doctors' fault, it's definitely the gun's fault. Everyone knows you can't kill someone without a gun.

But guns make killing easy. You do not have to get close to your target, and it is quick and deadly efficient. The victim has nearly no defense mechanism to thwart. Are you saying knives and choking are common? Look at the stats before you make such a stupid comment.

She should have had a gun to protect herself.

Please explain how Ms Giffords having a gun would have averted this tragedy? Was she supposed to pull it out and start firing at the crowd? The result would have been exactly same. And same for Aurora and Sandy Hook. Bystanders with a pistol, had zero chance against a pre-planned attacks, with heavy arms and even body armor and tear gas in 1 of my 3 examples.

I guess if Obama can get a Nobel Peace Prize for breathing, Gabby Giffords can get an award for being a victim of crime.
