South Dakota to let schools arm teachers

School boards in South Dakota will be permitted to let school employees, hired security personnel or volunteers carry guns in schools under a law signed Friday by Gov. Dennis Daugaard.

The law, set to go into effect July 1, will let school boards establish "school sentinel" programs.

Under these programs, the school boards can arm people "to secure or enhance the deterrence of physical threat and defense of the school, its students, its staff, and members of the public on the school premises against violent attack," according to the legislation.

Like a snowball rolling downhill it just gets bigger! WE yell & scream about, low standards, poor schools, teachers not teaching, kids not learning, teachers having to deal with lack of disicpline from parents, and on & on! So now lets have teachers, those that want to, arm themselves!? Do you keep the weapons in a central, secured, area? Do you carry them in individual classrooms, loaded or unloaded? Do all the checks, training, etc., required, and then tell someone that they cannot carry a loaded weapon? Semi auto weapons have a safey! What about revolvers? And what about the caliber of the weapon? Small or "hand cannon"?

Suppose one of those armed teachers loses it themselves one day? They'll walk right in the school and lock the door. Those kid's will be sitting ducks. I guess then according to the NRA we'll give guns to preschoolers.

Kids are all sitting ducks now, everyone that walks into that room of children could be armed and dangerous.
